The third member will work in the housing. Early (79-80) may have a 4:37 gear ratio instead of 4:10 (85) It should be marked on the ring gear. Divide the number of teeth on the pinion into the number of teeth on the ring gear and you will have the ratio. The bolt patter on the flange for the driveline will also be different. You can either drill new holes for the 85 driveline or swap the flanges. Just make sure you torque back the the same spot or you will change the gear pattern and it may develop a whine.
