Hi folks,

Grenaded my front diff this past weekend in my 2005 LX. At the same time, my rear diff is making a noise/vibration at highway speeds that I don't love either.

I've found someone parting out a 2001 LX & I can grab both the front and rear diff for $400. I think this is ideal, because the higher gear ratio (4.30 vs 4.10) will suite my 33's perfectly. Will the rear 3rd member of a 2001 4.30 axle drop into my 2005 housing? I think it should, but just wanted to make sure theres no difference in the housings.

Good deal and yes it'll work fine. Might check the gear contact pattern before installing though.

Yes you should be good to go. Apart from checking the splines, the backlash, check the seal as well so you can consider servicing them as well.

Not a bad idea - I'm going to just go ahead and tear down/rebuild the new front with an ARB locker, so was planning on running a pattern so I can try to match. But I'll grab a pattern of the rear as well while I'm there.

Yeah, I definitely was going to give it all a thorough look over before installing it.

Talking further with the guy, he bought this LX for the engine & hasn't had anyone else interested in any parts. He said if I bought the front & rear diff that he'd throw in the transfer case too - I'd call that a score! Anything else I should grab while I'm there? I think doors are already gone, headlights/tail lights are gone too.
