Drove the 80 about 3 miles. Parked to go into a bank and came back 5 min later to see what looked like about 20 oz of coolant on the deck immediately below the engine (not the radiator). It continued to drip steady for about 30 seconds and then stopped. There is still coolant in the radiator and the 80 ran fine over the next 15 miles with no overheating and no additional evidence of a leak. Any ideas what happened here?

Did you crawl under and try to pinpoint the drip?

How old are your hoses?

I had a problem where my coolant was leaking at a hose on the passanger side near the fired wall next to the block. You might want to check there...

Haven't been underneath yet - was in a suit. Just checked coolant levels and then went for a short drive. No overheating and when I parked again absolutely no leak. It's like it "burped" some coolant and then went back to normal. I think I have replaced every piece of rubber on this beast in the last 6 months. Intermittent problems are the worst!!!!

Without knowing where the coolant came from all we can do is guess. I would guess that the overflow bottle was overfilled and drained off the excess when the motor was hot.
Check coolant levels when the motor is COLD and OFF. Radiator should be filled to the top of the neck and overflow should have some coolant in the lower 3rd of the reservoir.

To close this out - a clamp was missing off one of the rear heater hoses. Apparently when the engine is turning and coolant is circulating there is actually less pressure in the hoses than just after a warm engine is turned off. This additional pressure was leading to a more pronounced leak immediately after operation that would quickly diminish as the engine cooled and pressure in the lines was reduced. Clamp replaced. Problem solved.

Of course now my AC has crapped out so I suspect we "bumped" into something in that system while we were crawling around the engine compartment. It never ends.....
