I some how managed to crack a chunk out of my 3fe harmonic balancer on my 62. I need a new one. Anyone know where I can pick one up? I was torquing mine back on using the chain method and I got it on. I went to take the 8mm bolts off and sure enough there was a chunk missing from the underside. Long story short I will need a new one. I'm looking though the parts section as I speak, but I was hoping to get find a better deal thank SOR at $600!?!

Good luck. That's about the running rate for a new one. You can find a used one for cheaper I am sure. I. Put one from a 91 80 series on my 87 FJ 60. Works like a charm.

No luck in searching for a week. Anyone know of a cheaper place online or a used cruiser parts yard that ships?

I spent 300 on a used one here, my mechanic just had it pulled from a local yard in Sacramento. It seemed to be reasonable so I went with it vs a new OEM which was 620 at Toyota. He didn't have a problem finding it. Check you local yard or here in Sac

And, I believe, that's an Australian made unit, too...

ATP is Chinese made. Either buy OE Toyota or Aussie flavor.

Good to know. Would you apply this rule to everything, even gaskets and filters? What about Beck/Arnley, Airtex/Wells, etc... for valves and sensors?

Generally, is the issue fitment or performance related?

Have you checked to see if Nix99 has anything?

Just called Nix99 and they got one in. $125... Not that bad actually.

If you go check it out, let me know what the new location is like. Their old Lynnwood building looked ideal, see if you can find out why they moved.

Well I found a new balancer. I ran a wire wheel over it to get all the rust/junk off of it and turns out it is going to need a speedy sleeve. There is a groove cut into it. That is the least of my worries right now though.

I cannot get the crank bolt back off. I have tried the starter bump (I am about 20+ bumps in right now), got a different 1 and 13/16 socket (I have a 46mm too), PD blaster overnight, and some heat and it will not budge. It came off the first time with 3 bumps. I put it back on using the chain technique and got it to around 255lbs (my torque wrench maxed out at 228lbs so I was looking for one to rent). That is when I notice the chunk missing. Anyone have any tips, tricks, prayers vehicle gods, or ideas? Or is anyone in the Seattle area a pro at this and wouldn't mind helping a guy out for a case of beer? I'm at just about my whits end here. This was supposed to be a simple project :censor:

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to stop the balancer from spinning and use a breaker bar, with the beer + hi-lift handle method.

Any chance it's on there more than 255?

Was there a resolution to this? What a cliffhanger? Most of the Beck/Arnley parts I've used for Toyota were Made In Japan. I've had good luck with their quality...

I had the same problem when pulling the balancer off my 3FE years ago, wouldn't budge. In desperation, I put 2 batteries in parallel (jumper cables) and did the starter bump trick again and it popped right off.
