This story keeps getting better and better. I found a used ballancer at my local Toyota yard for $120. It needed a speedy sleeve so I picked one of those up for $40 so I have a good ballancer for $160.
The problem is I cannot for the life of me get the old bolt back off. I tired the starter bump a good 10-15 times. No dice. So I soaked in in PB and still no dice. I tried the chain method I had used to put the bolt on. But the bolts I had put into the ballancer were too long and I snapped one off. I built an immobilizer with some instruction from 1911 over on ExPo in the Cruiser section. I couldn't find any 1/4" stock steel at my local hardware stores, so I settled on 3/16". Well that didn't work. It wasn't strong enough and I just ended up bending it under the cruiser. And that is where I am today.
I am going to try the chain method again tomorrow when I get some time after work. I have shorter bolts and I think its going to work. I also bought a new crank nut from Toyota for $30. So that brings the total to around $190 + $20 for the seals that I have into this. Funny how a $20 set of seals snowballs like this. I'm thinking of selling off the ballancer and buying a brand new one so I don't have to do this all again for a long time. But I have some time to think that over.
