I just returned from a trip to Louisiana to buy my first Land Cruiser. I’ve always liked them but was never in a position to purchase one. I bought it from Lance "cruiserfien" on the forum here and his crew at SaveTheLandCruisers.com. He knew I was looking and approached me about one he was selling. You couldn’t ask to buy from a better seller, Lance is a stand-up guy and hooked me up with a great Cruiser.

It’s a 1975 FJ40 with the 2F motor, a low 49,000 original miles, great color (mustard yellow), not cut up, and not restored on the cheap. It's a perfect starting point for me and should be a good project to slowly fix up and keep in good condition for a long time. I'm new to the Land Cruiser world, so any suggestions you guys have are welcome. I’m thinking the surface rust repair should keep me busy for a little while because I’m very new to body work, but after that I’ll be looking for more to do. Any ideas?

I have an auto transport company shipping it this week, so I should be behind the wheel of it next week. I think I’m going to want to just drive it everywhere and not jump into working on it right away but we’ll see.

More pictures to come when it arrives.

Looks nice, I get you are chompin at the bit to get it there and start driving it.

It's going to be a rough couple weeks waiting for it. I hadn't driven a 40 in years, and it was awesome driving this one last Saturday.

congrats, start with burning fuel everyday or weekend, don't worry on work on that nice 40,here are members that still working on their 40's and will pay for not start body work if not an emergency ..learn your toy later decide what to do

Today was the big arrival day. Longer than I was expecting to wait, but I'm stoked it's here. I was on my way to take delivery and saw a nice looking yellow Cruiser on a truck... wait... that's mine. :D

Got it unloaded this afternoon and put it in it's new home. It had been chained down pretty seriously on the truck and some air had escaped the tires.

So that's my first official project... put air in the tires.

I hate you a little now... I am excited to wrench on it though. Need me to swing by with the Tacoma to air it up?

If you bring your 62 over tomorrow I'll hate you back. It's all good on the tires, I pumped them up a bit today.

Nice Tony. I can't wait to come check it out.

Tony, Great to see it arrived. Hope you enjoy this cruiser, it is a great one. Thanks again for the kind words---I have this post saved and cant wait to watch your build.

dont do anything to it that takes it out of commision. waiting 2 weeks for parts etc. just drive it and enjoy. maybe get a spare tire and make sure you have the essentials jack and tools to cahange a flat. nice rig great color too.

oh yeh order bumperetts, and get an electric hoist (harbor fright $125) to take top on and off.

Used bumperetts from a MUD member should be coming in today. An electric hoist sounds like a very good investment., that top doesn't look too fun to remove...

Went through and changed out some of the fluids today, with help from "Irish11". The transmission is a bit quieter and shifts even better now. I wasn't sure when they had been done last and wanted to get some new quality fluids in.

Motor - 15w40 Rotella T
Trans / Xcase - Redline MT90 (Synthetic GL-4)
F Diff - 80w90
R Diff - 85w140

very nice---i would do minor things and drive it ---these riigs were made ot be drivem!!!!!:steer:...not sit in a garage most of it;s life.

Summer is flying by and I've barely done anything but try to get a baseline for regular maintenance (fluids/tune-up). I was able to find a rear seat from a MUD member and that install was my next project. But the 40 had other plans.

It decided that a water pump failure at 5,400 feet 100 miles from home was a good spot for that.

In its defense, I should have checked out the cooling system more thoroughly before a long weekend drive up a pass... I think I let it down. Either way, shaft bearing ceased, nice guy in a 3rd Gen Pickup towed it to his cabin. Other option was a parking lot in Enumclaw... and I wanted the wheels to be on it the next morning. I came back yesterday with the Cherokee and a tow dolly. For a 220,000 mile XJ it's not as bad of a tow rig as you'd think.

The 40 could use a coolant flush and the correct thermostat, so it will be good to give the cooling system a once over.
