My 3f with about 200,000 km's has worn valve seals.Puff of smoke when first starting. I was using 20w50 mineral oil and it burned about 1 litre per 10,000 km's. Nothing to bad. The oil was always dirty when changed.

Last Oil change I tried 10w40 semi synthetic repco brand. Something in this oil has rejuvinated the valve seals. No more smoke, still full on the dipstick, no discoloration at all after nearly 5000 km,s. I am running on propane 90% of the time so the oil stays cleaner compared to using petrol.

Has anyone heard of some oils rejuvinating valve seals?

Yes. The “High Mileage” motor oils are designed to swell old seals to minimize leaks. They do work for that. I’ve experienced it first hand too.

The oil is so clean I am finding it difficult to see it on the dipstick. Whatever is in this oil ,it seems to have cured my leaky valve stem seals. I hope it lasts.
