So a few years back I was reinstalling the head on my 92 FJ80, when I fail to incrementally tightened the rocker shaft cap bolts and instead send each bolt all the way down. The pressure from the valve springs pushed the shaft resulting in a few stripped cap bolts. So now I am looking for some advice, can I time-cert/heli-coil new bolts (assume that I will have to repair all the bolt holes), weld in bolt studs, or is the head wasted and I should just look at swapping a V8 motor since the price of a head is ridiculous.

I know time-certs work on cylinder heads bolt thread repair.

Any help will be appreciated.

Did you end up doing something here?

No personal experience with this, but I think the 3FE motor is a great motor. I would be surprised if you couldn't find a new head for fairly cheap, though. Maybe try Ebay, pick'n'pulls, etc. More people take the motor out than put it in, and it was used for a few years between the FJ62 and the FJ80.

Any have any info in this? I have not done anything yet. I am considering ordering some custom step studs with the base being larger pitch than the original bolt.
