I have a 92 LC, I had to put a new short block in it because of an oil change accident, (service fault nothing was wrong with the engine) and all this money later the thing is still very sluggish on the highway ( I wish I woulda crammed a cummins diesel in it) but you still can't beat it in the mud or on the trail. Can anyone tell me what upgrades they think work the best? ( Bigger exhaust, maybe cut the cats off? That bored out throttle body? Sending the computer to Jet Chips? Has anyone tried that RV cam in a 3f-e?) Awesome site, thanks for any suggestions.

There are a few thread with this almost exact title. Search and you will find them but here is the quick easy answer....

They were slow brand new....they are slow now, as TiredIrons said, the durability and dependability make up for its slooowness. So in a word, there isn't anything that can be done to turn your 3FE into a Camaro. ;) New short block or not...of course in 300,000 miles we will see which is still running. I know on which I would bet. :D

The best thing to do with a 3FE is rid yourself of it, or learn to love what it offers. It has more than enought torque for offroad, and will last longer than almost any engine offered shy of a diesel.

I bumped up the timing to 11.5*, got a better flowing exhaust, and threw on 33's. The exhaust and timing made up for the tires and it feels like it did stock.

I am considering taking my FE head and putting it on a 2F block and getting an RV camshaft, but if I'm gonna do all that work, might as well do a diesel swap.

Be happy, you have the black sheep of all Cruiser engines, and the last "tractor" motor in these things.

Im not trying to turn the thing into a camaro! And yeah i've had it for five years and i've wheeled it and love it! I just want to free up 8-15 horsepower (thats still only 170 hp in a 5500lb rig)for those hills on the interstate and maybe have a few less downshifts. Trust me if I want to race someone who isn't expecting a runner I'll bring the dodge cummins (I think driving that thing is what made me realize how little my lc has). If there is anyone who has tried that chip, cam, throttle body, or exhaust let me know how your gains worked out and if it was worth the trouble-money.

3FE Powa

Yeah its slow as hell off the line, but there is some power above 2750rpms
1) Try pulling the front DS and see if it helps. 2wd conv?
2) Learn the art of drafting on the highway.:o
3) Try not to use the brakes!:flipoff2: And never the A/C and brakes!
4) Advance the timing.
