3F Distributor Problem

Give them time, they are probably in bed:D

A few thousand miles south of you we have loads of 3F engines in the FJ75 .
What most of us do is to replace the points / condensor with electronic ignition ( Petronix ) as it gives better fuel economy and more power .

But I would also start with new rotor and distributor cap .
One of them probably has worn contacts and only makes contact when you press the unit towards the engine.

But be warned - in SA there are two different size rotors and distributor caps that go in the 3F . Ensure you order the right one .

Hi guys, traced the problem..

The clamp at the base of the distributor was bent down towards the block meaning that it was only clamping the very base of the dizzy. I bent it up so the arms were parallel again and with a bit of messing with the timing the engine ran fine.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Hi everyone, been looking around here on mud for an answer to this question. As i get it, there are two 3f dizzys, ones got a larger body/cap than the other. My FJ70 came with this 'larger' dizzy and now it needs to go out. The question here is, are these two interchangable? What effects would it have on the engine?
