finally got our 3d printer working ... Lowest bidder/used old donated laptops = problems for 6 months lol

But... Finally spent a dedicated block of time to spend on it...

Using SD card instead of the direct cable to laptop... Have my old home computer connected to my old home printer/scanner that has a SD port and now it works :meh:

Anybody use tinkercad or makerbot?

Want to get this going for students to use... Before its outdated

I might be having an issue with the painters tape (that I was told helps) is this necessary?

Any other 3ders out there?

The company that sells and services all our surveying gear was pushing the Makerbots this Spring, so I had the sales dude bring one in for a demo before I plunked down any money. I wasn't that impressed, mostly because I couldn't believe how slllllooooooowww the thing was. The sales drone knew nothing about them, every question I asked got "I'll have to get back to you on that". Then I started reading reviews on the machine and the company tech support, we decided to hold off. I have enough hassle with the printers and plotters we have now, I don't need that headache.

Try Elmer's glue stick on the build plate if using abs. We print directly on the build plate with pla. We have a maxerbot at work with about 2000 hours on it. It's completely worn out.

None of the fdm printers are fast, but they are faster than a machine shop or model maker. They're also good for trinkets.

I was involved with the MakeSLC group who were disassembling printers for parts and building 3D printers (RepRap/MakerBot clones). Thats all they did for something like 18 months. I joked that they made 3D printers that printed 3D printers.... I wasn't really interested unless I could scale it up and use my MIG welder with a spool of .030 wire in lieu of the ABS plastic.

Nobody was interested.

Then I saw a LaserTec 65 in action...
