I went by and got a quote from the rubber molding place in town. They do GM window rubber pieces as well.. It was going to be about 8K to get the rear slider gaskets recreated.. I kinda need a new daily driver more than I need 100 sets of rear slider window gaskets. I'll see if I can mold them myself somehow. I'd put in a one piece for now and keep your existing stuff for later.

well, I quit my job this morning and am giving the 45 to temeculatim for teaching me how to build it so she should somehow someway make it up there, I'd like to make it too ..... ps- he doesn't get the title, just a one year trial membership.

thanks to everyone else for the praise, its been a long time coming.

Aaron

Does not look to bad sitting between my 40 and the 55 now does it Aaron. Fits perfectly in the garage were the wifes car used to go:D

You were not kidding- that this thing draws more gawkers than a circus side show. Towing it home almost caused a few wrecks on the 15. People were making wild lane changes to check it out  and I thought for sure I was gonna get pulled over by a CHiPPer. He followed me off the freeway and then gave me the thumbs up.

wow...great looking 45!

Best of luck on your next job...

Do you need door stoppers as well?

I think I have a set.

I know i have at least one new shiny one, just nothing to attach it to yet. After 2.5 years now that it is registered and plated and I can enjoy driving it I kind of don't care about the little things until I can build up some more cash to continue.

Good luck landing your next gig Aaron!
Sweet rig!

already lined up.

The 45 build ninja finally speaks out:D. Aaron needs to make plans to return for the 45 run. He worked real hard on this truck. We still have a few minor things to complete and I would like to go back and redo a few things we did on the fly to get it ready for the DMV inspection and some paint and body touch ups. I also want to finish the brake system to full power. All and all it really is a beautiful truck and I was not suprised when he told me how much attention he gets when he drives it.

just had to quit work to get some free time.

gas stations and auto stores are the worst - plan an extra 45 minutes at these.

Too sick for words - what a perfect truck.

it'll never be perfect, but I did what I could keep up with financially and am very happy with the almost finished product, thanks for the props, Tim's knowledge, instruction and help made my ideas come to life.

thanks once again!

Try Vic @ 810-797-4120.

He got me tons of OEM parts (incl weatherstripping) for my '76 HJ45.

Very cruiser-sharp guy.

Cheers! Eddie

cool guy, unfortunately these were just too scarce, no luck yet.

Will do. Keep your glass.

So, I had to move a couple years ago and left my 45 in California about 95% done.

One of the remaining things I wanted to do at the time was add heat and AC. I initially scrapped the AC plans. Now after thinking it through I fear driving it in the winter in the Northeast for corrosion reasons. So I am pondering scrapping the heat idea seeing as I won't be driving it in the winter and figure early spring and late fall will just require a thicker pair of socks and an extra shirt. Srapping the heat also prevents me from cutting holes in the firewall and cab for hoses and venting. It also saves me time and money to get it here quicker.

I posted to get opinions on having heat versus keeping the cab original without cutting it. I would appreciate your thoughts on comfort vs future value.

Thanks for your input.

A rear heater from a 40 will fit on the firewall in original holes. But. My vote. Get it, drive it, enjoy it then decide later. I would love to be in that position.

Don't think the fixed top FJ45 pickup was ever offered with a heater option from the factory. So the hole will not be there nor will it be set up for the blower. Lots of period correct heater that would work. The one from Eaton was popular. I would try and find one of these.

Better to get the heater in now, than wish you had done so when out on a beautiful late fall day, and it is freezing outside.

I'd second going with the Eaton option, as it seemed to be the most popular after market heaters for '64 and older cruisers, so "spare parts" shouldn't be too hard to find...

...any thoughts on cutting the body (firewall and vent)?

You don't have to cut a vent for the Eaton heater, just a couple holes for the hoses...and it would be period correct

Edit: not my pictures, (hope no one minds me using them here) but these will give you an idea of what is involved...oh don't forget the three smaller holes for the three bolts...
