I need a little bit of help here ya'll. I have an 87 FJ60 that already has 35's under it, but I am unsure how much lift the springs actually are. They are from a FJ 55. I am getting ready to have Alcan make me some spring's but i'm not too sure how much lift to have them make, I was thinking a 6 inch kit. I want to keep it spring under like it already is, just want better springs. Right now it is mostly my DD and Beach Buggy. I will be moving to TN here shortly, where i will probably take it on a few trails . Nothing too serious, thats what the 40 is for.

Thanks
Darin from Ft Bragg ( retire in 64 days ) :) :) :)

Looking for a 45 project truck. :)

5-6 inchs for light wheeling...that said...know a dude with 2.5" and 35's

6" lift looks fine to put 35" safe .. but, with not SO ... ? maybe with SU and 6" lift you have many leaves, with arch .. soft . ? maybe yes, expensive yes .. !

SO with stock leaves .. soft, cheap .. mmm maybe, more then custom 6" springs ..

just my 5 cents ..

Im SUA and only have 2'' lift springs but have 2" body lift and 2" overstock shackles, I still get plenty of flex and my centre of gravity is nice and LOW. I clear my BFG 35"s (JUST). Im personally a fan of body lift vs. huge spring lift to get big tyres on, centre of gravity is much better and still get good flex out of the 2'' lift springs and longer shackles.

The problem with putting 6" springs on a 60 is that they will have way too much arch to ride and flex well, not to mention the amount of leaves it will take to hold it at 6". I don't even think Alcan will make them because of this. He did allot of work on my 87 FJ60 back in 93 so he knows 60s. I was only at 4" and running 33s at the time. That was the most lift I could get SUA and still get a reasonable ride and some flex out of my truck. This is why you don't see lifts of more than 4".

David Reljac's 87 60, one of the nices all around 60s anywhere, SUA on 35 BFGs, I THINK with 4 inch and some shackles. Not sure of the details. He's in the Dallas chapter of LSLC, Waggoner knows him.

Off topic, my sprunged under re arch add a leaf sliders rear q panel protection V8 Ranger OD budget build "the ultimate camping trip truck" on 32 in MTR poser flex shot. Pimpin. :grinpimp:

an old pic, but here's 36x12.5s on 4" alcans. never did wheel it, just wanted to see if i'd like it, so i borrowed the tires off my 40

I would not even consider 6" springs. You will be way high with the CG all messed up. I run 2.5" Dakars and a 2" body lift with 35"s. I used to rub a bit but only when I really flexed it out. A sawzall fixed that! If you really want more that 3.5-4" of lift consider SOA.

PM Devo on here. He has a sweet 60 SUA with Alcans. He could go just about anywhere if he was not such a wimp about body damage.

Nuclearlemon, are you shackles on upside down?
that front one was yeah...i couldn't find the other side.

I was thinking 3" springs (Alcans?), 2" over shackles, and a 1" body lift for a 5" total. Would that be enough to clear 35's without trimming inside the fender wells?

I mean yes .. !

In my case maybe one year ago before SO a use 35" with 2.5" OME + MAF Shackle reversal kit + extreme SOR shackles rear enough space to 35" Grabber, with out trimming ..

Note: using this setup, remember your front diff move back and in some specific situations the rear part of your front fenders are kiss ..

Thanks for the replies, I tried posting a pic of my vehicle right now, could not do so, the main question I have is will 35 BFG's fit under a FJ60 with 4in alcan springs a shackle reversal in the front and extended shackles in the rear. If I do this what are the chances of it scrubbing? IT is used mostly as a daily driver and a beach buggy in the sand it will not be wheeled much. (Moving to Tennessee shortly). Again thanks for the replies.

nope. sorry man. each truck is a bit different but i am going to stand by my answer ans say they will not fit 100% without rubbing. i have a friend, fj60, 3" pinnacle springs, extended shackles and 1 or 2 add a leafs per spring and he STILL rubs with 35x12.5s and 3.5" backspacing. he has like 7" of lift.

i rub with 34x12.5 on 3.5" backspacing and OME 3" - 3.5" with a 1" body lift. 4.5" of lift...

the place you will rub are the inside of the rear wheel well where the body meets the frame (no place to cut) and the front of the front, lower fender. if you look at ridge runners brown 60 in this post, you will notice he has cut the front fender significantly - look near the outer edge of the bumper... oulined in red is approx. what is missing:

also, you can read more about the 34s and 35s here...
https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=36851&highlight=peepers

sorry to bring bad news... i would just hate to see you spend all that $$$ and still experience them rubbing.

to get my 34x12.5s to rub less, i am going to get a .25" spacer for the rear and hopefully they will no longer rub on the frame/body. then for the front, if i get the nuts to, cut the fender...

keep us posted!

edit::removed duplicate images...

I run a 2.5" spring lift with a 1" body lift and 2" over stock shackles to fit 35's. Does it rub? Yes it does. I actually just put the shackles on and haven't wheeled it yet so we'll see how it changes soon. Doesn't bother me if they rub a little. I did cut out some on the front fender, but I should cut out more.
