33's or 35's

And Emu might not be big enough for 33's depending on what exact tire you pick and what rim it's mounted on.

If you run a shackle reversal kit on the front (which I am not a fan of) and really long shackles in the back (also not a fan of) - then you can run any 33 you want with Emu but it works mo better with a tire that does not need all that fornication. 33x10 buckshot mudder for example. Or 33x10 Swamper Radial or 34x10 swampers - because they tuck in really nicely when mounted on stock rims.

Trust me - been there and done that.

With a 4 inch lift you can run a 33 or a 34.

Best 4 inch springs are probably Alcan and I'd probably order up a 3 inch kit and run 33's.

Here is a pic of my 79 with Emu and 33 inch Buckshot Mudders - back in 95?

Best 4" springs are FJ60 springs... Seriously, I don't know why people don't use 60 springs on their 40s. They are centered in the front and longer in the rear, which offsets the shortened spring that results from the increased arch of the 4" spring. At worst, you'd have to drill the rivets out of the rear shackle hangers, turn them 180* and bolt/weld them back in place.

Oh, but if you have an older 40 with narrow springs, this is not as simple.

John, I have no idea what a buckshot mudder is. Sounds cool as hell though. It has been decided, OME and then we'll see.

I think you guys are forgetting he said his rear fenders are cut. That's where the biggest issue is with squeezing tires under there is

The biggest issue is ripping them up on the rear wheel wells and rubbing them on the rear inners. You can stuff big tires under it, but then you'll have to extend your bump stops 6" and have a total of 1.5" of stuff and 2" of droop.

He can buy my 4" Alcans! Then he would be good!!
Steve we can make him a package deal!!!

Emu is only a 2 inch lift! 1.5 inches in the front and 2 ¼ to 2 ½ in the rear.

With cut fenders you can run a 31 on stock suspension - what he has now...

or with Emu and cut fenders you can run a 33 x 12.50

With a 4 lift and cut fenders you can run a 35 x 12.50

Donny F. ran emu and it would not clear his 33 inch swampers (bigger than a 33 inch BFG)

So bottom line is I can run most 33 x 12.5's given that I have cut fenders. Otherwise I would have outer rub. Stump do you really think inner rub be a problem?....can I solve that problem by less backspacing.

WTF Ryan?.......aaaand he's working on my truck.
I guess Ryan can say whatever he wants and I'll still let him wrench on my 40.....I feel like an abused wife.

Don't be offended Steve, the Hobbit is known for strong sarcasm. LOL

Backspacing is a factor, though with a 33" tire, as long as you are around 3.25" on an 8" rim, you should be g2g.
