Hey guys,

I am thinking of changing to 33" tires on my fj60 (currently have 31"). My question is will I need to lift the vehicle at all and what is the best way to lift it if necessary. Also, will I need to replace the axles or will they be able to handle the larger tires. I would appreciate it if you can give me any ideas of all the mods that will be required with 33" tires.

Thanks,
Nick

No mods necessary, prolly want to look at maybe a 10.50" wide tire though without a lift. May want to look at a spring lift, try a search, also the axles are more than beefy enough for 33's.

Might get a little rubbing off road if your springs are saggy or you go with wide 33's. You lose a little low gearing (crawling) and gain a little high gear (highway). You can gain a little lift with shackles pretty inexpensively. A spring lift is great but more expensive. Spring over, and you are instantly cool.

Re-Arc your springs or throw in some add-a-leafs would be an easy fix as well. Go spring over and you will be looking for bigger tires than 33's, I should know, running 33x10.5s right now and they look like stockers.

with stock suspension
33x12.5s won't fit. 33x10.5 might fit. 33x9.5 does fit.

no need to change the axles, you might not be happy with the gearing with 33's however

I LOVE the 33x9.5s on our stock 62. no lift and 240,000 miles :)

That's one nice looking ride! Who makes a 33"x9.5?

BFG A/T's or M/T's come in 33x9.5

I bought the BFG ATs in 31 x 10.50 a while back. I now wish I would have went with the 33 x 9.50s like Landpimp. It looks great, and you only spend about $100 extra for all 5 tires. Not bad for 2" of lift. If you do light wheeling, I would go with the ATs. If it is a primary wheeler, then go for the MTs.

Costco carries the M/T's I know, WalMart also carries both, but the best price I have found is at Tire Rack

BFG only makes the 33x9.5's in AT's they stoped making MT's a few years ago.

Big O, Avon and a few others make AT's and a sorta MT, the Big 0 is prolly the most agresive of the bunch.

I run the 33x9.5 ATs on 3 of my Cruisers, very happy with them for my use.

in other markets 60/2's came with tires almost as tall stock or optional, but I recall they had different spring packs.

33X12.5 TSL will fit with 2.5 BDS lift.:

Rubs some on the inner wheel well above the frame at full stuff:

Also rubs a little in the front at full stuff. Hasn't caused any body damage, just rubbed the paint off. Now rocks on the other hand, that's a different story. :D

Ben - where did you find the 33 x 9.5s? I want to go with the BFG ATs, but want to go up in size (currently running 31 x 10.5 BFG ATs)

I actually still run the 31 x 10.50s. I bought mine at Discount Tire. I am more than impressed with their service. They actually used the correct torque setting when relpacing my lugs. They beat any prices (including Wal-Marty). One of my new valve stems began leaking and they replaced it with no questions asked after several thousand miles. IMOP, they are a good tire company.

It would have been just over $100 more dollars to get the 33 x 9.5 set (5) of tires. Not bad.
