I will be going to look at a motor tomorrow for my cruiser. I have the chance to but a 88 chevy half ton with a fuel injected 305. The truck has about 100,000 miles on it an runs good. what are some things I should check before I buy . I will do a compression test on it but what are some other things I should look for. I know it is a 305 but I can buy truck for 500.00 and sell the the rest for 350.00 to a friend. So it will be a cheap motor and that means I almost have all my parts.

Check the cam lobes while it's out of the truck, it's easier on a stand.

If they are gone, you could put an rv cam in.

I think the 305 would be a good fit.

I have a '60's 283 that's old and worn out, and it does fine.

That was one of my big things was getting a complete truck so I could get all the wiring. I have many sleepless nights going over the 465 vs the toy 4sp but I already have the adaptor for the toyata stuff and now with spending less on the motor a orion might be in order. Trying to get a crawl ration of 70:1 and still have street drivablity. So I think the 4sp will treat me better.

I will. I plan on putting in a new cam to give me some more low end torque.
