Finally finished a 3 inch exhaust for my KZJ78 Prado.
And made a custom Dump pipe from the turbo.
Wow what a difference it has made.
Revs freely and pulls in low range.
Doesn't hold back like it used to.
Here is a link to a NZ forum where I have put some pictures...

Next mod is an inter-cooler. (Isuzu donor) with a fan for low speed work.

The exhaust must be loud yes/no and if loud will eventually irritate you especially if it comes out under the drivers door. mine is I think 3" and with a muffler on it and its nice and quiet and it gets along just fine even on 35" sneakers and I can turn on the ipod and listen to nice music and from dead stop may it honks even with the auto powering it (sorry Crushers I know you hate 1KZ's) .

As you can guess I like my trucks quiet not the howling 1JZ's or 2JZ's and hotdog exhausts polluting the jungle and drowning out the nice bird/monkey noises.

I cannot post to the nz forum at present they have screwed up my handle ("geckoadventure") and cannot register another as the email address the same :( and no response from the adminstrator.

I like the dump pipe - not using an after market wastegate?

got a pic of the complete truck?

Cicak: (sorry Crushers I know you hate 1KZ's) and we know how he feels about the 2L-TE. I am starting to wonder if he rides a bike to work. Take care......1978HJ45

The exhaust is not too loud, still use the radio. Burbles a bit at high way speeds.
I have no carpet in my truck too.
Waste gate is factory and I am more than happy with its performance.
Here's a pic taken a few months back.
Getting a clean after a weekends playing.

kbush, ur truck makes me feel funny in my pants! that thing is awesome, good job!

Was the intercooler mounted top or at the front? I put mine at the front cos its like an oven inside the engine bay. I felt the intercooler would just become a heat absorber if mounted on the top and did not particulary wish for a hole in the bonnet for an air scoop. I have not had any temperature problems with front mounted intercooler and installed no additional fan.

Well you certainly have a firey 1kz now, especially with that manual fuel pump.

Its a top mount, not much room out front, and yes it gets hot under there but works better than none....

Mine is tucked just in front of the radiator, but behind the grill. Grill ws trimmed on the rear a little, but outward there is no change.
