First post in this section, woo hoo. I did a search and couldn't come up with anything. How long should it take a reasonbly proficient tech (me) to replace both valve cover gaskets on a '96 3.4 4Runner? I'm guessing 4 hours or less?

Yes...CA truck all will come apart easily, the spark plug grommets suck to put in/take out...and the upper intake comes off.

The coils may also give you some trouble if they are stuck to any plugs...I had one that WOULD not come off without serious pulling on a truck with 250k on it not too long ago-

If you're moving fast and don't need to clean much up, you should have it done in 2 hours or so...but 4 for sure!

You might want to get a new oil fill cap too...they leak when they are old, dried out, etc.

******and you just bend the tabs on the inside of the valve cover that slightly block a few of the s-plug grommets*******

Piece of cake job, and made sure you reseal the half-moon cam end plugs too, you'll want some FIPG on hand for that.

Awesome, thanks for the pointers:beer:.

You can actually buy just replacement o rings for the oil caps, I've replaced them on both my rigs when they've gotten old and quit sealing.

Get out of town! I thought that might be the case! I went and bought new fill caps however, shoulds checked! Well, I've got some extras sitting around somewhere that just need a new seal!
