Hello, I'm new here I'm trying to replace the 3/4 rear section of the tub of a 1973 fj40 but I wanted to use a 1980 tub because that one doesn't have the space for the fuel tank under the seat, which I already move to the frame area, and I have been trying to look for information about the mounting points between the frame and the tub to see if this is possible, thanks in advance.

1/79+ the tank was still under the passenger seat. It was under the tub in that area just larger and extended under the driver seat. If you don't mount the tank in the area what would you use the space far? Runner a pre 1/79 3/4 tub and not put a tank inside the cab you have room for inside storage.

Mating the 1/79+ 3/4 tub to a 73 cowl will be challenging. The A pillar changed designed 1/79. That would be as challenging as mount it tor frame.

Not sure if youre going Aluminum or looking for a steel repro tub, I got a 3/4 tub from Aqualu with the tank provisions in the cab removed and shifted rearwards for moving the tank behind the axle. I think they already had this design for the ICON tubs they do. Im pretty tall so I want to mount the seats low and make some storage under them. Currently in the process of mounting it

Its pretty trivial (minimal sheet metal work) to do if you're working with the section from door jam rearward to weld up and make sufficient mounting points to the frame.

I did it many moons ago on a 40.

Ended up welding in some new floor sections and rocker panels for the section from cowl underneath front seats.

Fast forward a few decades I purchased a full alum tub with cowl

Its going to take a little work to do the rest, mount switched/etc but long term its the best option for me.

Mating the 3/4 alum tub to an existing cowl is prob as much work as migrating all the wiring/etc to a new complete tub/cowl

Pick your poison
