1/4 elliptical suspension question

I've been kicking the idea of a 1/4 E/S In my 40. I have Fj80 axles to use, could I use the lower and upper link mounts in the stock position on the axle? I would only need to make shock mounts and a point for a heim to mount the leafs to. What do you think?

Unless you already cut the coil perches off the 80 axle, I'd just mount up a top coil retainer & run the coils. Way less work than cutting up leaf packs & mounting them to the frame bottom. Triangulate your links or run a panhard, up to you.....

X2 if you already have the coil buckets .. why not this option .. ? better performance and actually coils are cheap ...

You can keep the 80 series control arms setup for a good stock flex ..

You do realize that a 3/4 elliptical is just a standard leaf suspension with a buggy leaf bolted to the frame right? No links necessary?

Are you referring to a 1/4 elip?

The nice thing about 1/4 elip suspensions are that they are Easily tunable. instead of playing around with multiple springs for a happy medium rate, you just add/subtract leaves. Pretty easy.

Although, IMHO, the stock 80 series attatchment points leave a lot to be desired. So plan on cutting everything off anyway. What are the chances that the spring buckets would be in the right place anyway...

I've been staring at the"Sole Dictator's" set up in the tech links, and I want to copy it to some degree. I know that I could use the coils, My 80 flexes like a slinky in the rear, but I dont want 2 of the same setups.
Buggy springs are cool, did that on my 60 years ago, just want to go a different direction than I've already gone.

Mace, Thanks, I always thought it was 3/4. I was never really good at fractions.

So, 80 axle link mounts OK?

IMO, the axle-side link mounts on the 80 axle would need to be relocated....especially the uppers. However, until you start to design and lay it under the rig, who knows...

Lower may need to be reworked too...the 'stock' 80 lowers are relatively parallel, but the 80 frame is wider...

again, get it under there on jack stands and pull out the tape measure :)
