I actually grabbed a couple steel dust covers off a 2wd tundra and pressed those in.May want to shove a rag in the back side of the spindle to keep the dirt out. Did the same for another guys 100 while waiting for a new dif.

i believe you're right. They press in if you pull your seal out. I chose to leave the seal in and built a crude bracket that utilizes a threaded hole on the spindle and presses the cover in place.
