Hi guys,

Just trying to figure out why my second battery decided to boil out is acid …

So a little back ground, the car is a 88 HJ75 with Trekker conversion, it’s a 12v car with a second aux battery installed. The main is a new 72amp and the Aux is a 2 year old 70amp… it happened after 3 long drives of around 1500 kms … the car wouldn’t start one morning, so I flipped the hood to see the aux battery inflated and spewing acid.

I disconnected the battery and after a few tries she started, completed the holiday on 1 battery no problems… the additional volt meter shows a comfortable 13 Volt at all times including when the fridge is connected. Maybe a little less on tick over to be expected….

I thought it’s the battery regulator that’s the problem, but was told its more likely either a duff batter or the alternator on the car…

I still need to connect a aux battery and check the voltage with the engine running…anything else I can check to find its cause..

Cheers
Matt

Your battery is NFG.

Sounds like an over-charging issue.

Check the output voltage and ripple on your alternator under various conditions of load and engine RPM.

always replace batteries as a pair or go to one battery installation if you don't really need two.
