I've compiled the four routes here viewable on OnX. I also imbedded the links to GaiaGPS routes.

Day 1: For those who plan to arrive by 10 am at Victoria's Secret Restaurant and depart from Arrowbear to Camp, I will be with the convoy.

Day TBD: The trip from Camp to White Mt and back will take us all day and we will stay together.

Day TBD: The route from Camp to Gold Mountain peak and back plus JB gatekeepers avoids going through the waterfall and gatekeeper at the bottom half of Gold Mt. It will also take us to the gatekeepers at both ends of John Bull without having to run the trail.

On the same day if one of you would volunteer to lead the group through the easy trail, I will lead harder alternative to run full lengths of Gold Mountain and John Bull in a loop that would meet up with the group at GM peak and JB gatekeepers.

Let me know please if you could be a trail leader for the easy run to Gold Mountain peak and back plus JB gatekeepers.

White Mountain OHV Road 3N17 Area Status: Temporarily Closed

Need a degree in computer science to figure out the rest too!
I had been wondering why most Toyota Tacomas have four doors and five seats. This explains it. Toyota pick up trucks only had two doors and a bench seat back in the days and it would be tough to fit your co-pilot, engineer, and navigator. Extras usually just sat on the wheel wells, bed rails, or lean up against the tailgate :D. Those little pick ups would carry 10-11 people - 3 in the cab and 8 in the bed. I learned the H shift pattern being the middle passenger!

Is anyone interested in breaking off from the main group on the way in on Day 1 and taking the more challenging route along Holcomb Creek Trail (3N93)? We could then meet the main group back in camp.
I am interested but only if someone else can lead the easy route. 3N93 breaks off at the west end here (34.27534, -117.05089) and meets up at Coxey here (34.30036, -116.98234).
Otis - Are you taking your 100 series?

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Big Bear A Thon of 2024.

UPDATED 8/5:
A multi-day base camping and exploration event set for Thursday 8/22 to Saturday 8/24. We've scouted the tentative camp location at Yellow Post #31 (coordinates 34.28858, -116.92039) that is on the club Adopt-A-Trail route between the Delamar Mountain and Big Bertha Peak. It is near the PCT and is popular with campers and hikers. If the site is not available, there are alternative sites further north that I can try and secure along with anyone who wants to convoy with me.

We will meet at 10 am Thursday 8/22.
Location: Victoria’s Family Restaurant (33227 Hilltop Blvd, Arrowbear Lake, CA 92382)
Travel route: Convoy up mountain following highway 18 >> Green Valley Lake Rd >> Holcomb Valley (3N16) >> 3N14 >> 3N12 >> 3N12C >> 2N09A >> Choice #1 campsite: Yp#31. End to end is 25.8 miles.

Trails in the areas are mild to wild and we will explore the area to the best ability of our vehicles. Please reply here if you plan to attend. Be sure that your vehicle has recovery points in both front and rear. If not you can join us at camp but won't be trail riding with the group.

On the itinerary is White Mountain Loop: From Camp >> 3N14 (Coxey) >> 4N16 (White Mt) >> 3N17 (White Mt) >> to Camp. This may be run in reverse if we stay at one of the alternative sites which are further north in Holcomb Valley. End to end is approximately 31 miles.

We will also try to play on one of these harder trails:
  1. Gold Mountain - downhill is fun until you get to the last waterfall and then the gatekeeper. Going uphill starts with the gatekeeper a go-on or go-home obstacle!
  2. John Bull - goes up to the a nice vista then down to rock gardens on both ends. Going East to West, the gatekeeper is the most difficult and it gets progressively easier. West to East is a lot of fun for short wheelbase!
  3. Holcomb Creek 4x4 - Several water crossings and rock gardens. It's a lot fun to play in until you get stuck! If you get stuck ;)
I hope you can join. Please let me know if you do.
How hard would it be to meet up with you guys Friday Morning? Are you guys camping Saturday night?

Day 1 and taking the more challenging route along Holcomb Creek Trail (3N93)
Jeep Adventure guy said that stock Jeep Rubicons drove through this trail (blue dots). Even Tacomas got through :steer: according to this guy. I think our group can get through. If not there's always the 3N16 bypass (red line)
