Planning on the trip. Bringing the 40 and the wife doesn't like camping so we'll stay in a cabin near fawnskin. Will need final camp coordinates so can meet with the group on Thursday evening or Friday morning.

I have faith that one of these days Brent will want to test out the sliders, delete the fender flares, and even go doorless!Brent would not want to take his brand new Tacoma through the trail.

If Brent takes the Bypass, maybe he can lead the easy trail...The red Bypass is basically a forest road
I'm banking on getting our first choice of camp site at YP#31. Come early and we can try to run 3N93. Check back here on Thursday afternoon and I will have posted a confirmation on camp coordinates. Will need final camp coordinates
I've updated the original post with the latest details. I hope you can make it for the whole trip if not some of it or at least a day run.Im very interested! Will try and make it to club meeting this Sunday (need to double check where/when it's taking place...as im pretty sure the former host location im familiar with has been retired by now...)
Great, I have you down for tentatively leading the easy riders through the red Bypass while Chris, anyone else, and I try 3N93.Think I did Holcomb years ago. Wasn't too bad IIRC, but yes, I need to familiarize myself with the new truck first.
Sunday breakfast was an impromptu bonus last year. No run is planned on Sunday so we can really party it up Saturday night!Count me in, may even stay till Sunday.
Holy cr*p! This is going to be fun.I’ll be there.
Are we dispersed camping or have to book and reserve a site? Planned route is on Gaia or OnX?Welcome to the 2nd Annual Big Bear A Thon of 2024.
UPDATED 8/12:
This is a multi-day base camping and exploration event set for Thursday 8/22 to Saturday 8/24.
Thursday 8/22:
We will meet at 10 am at Victoria’s Family Restaurant (33227 Hilltop Blvd, Arrowbear Lake, CA 92382)
Travel route: Convoy up mountain following highway 18 >> Green Valley Lake Rd >> Holcomb Valley Road (3N16) (optional detour on 3N93) >> 3N14 >> 3N12 >> 3N12C >> 2N09A >> Camp at yellow post #31. End to end is 25.8 miles. I will take the optional more challenging route along Holcomb Creek Trail (3N93) while one of the club members (Brent?) will lead the easy riders to camp. I'm banking on securing YP#31 but if we have to find alternative, I will post definitive camp coordinates after we set up camp.
Friday 8/23:
We will leave at 10 am from Camp to White Mt along 3N14 (Coxey) >> 4N16 (White Mt) >> 3N17 (White Mt) >> back to Camp. This may be run in reverse depending on conditions. The loop is approximately 31 miles.
Saturday 8/24:
I've planned two routes with enough overlapping sections that we can either break together along the way or enjoy watching some of the old Toyotas (and maybe newer ones) drive over interesting obstacles:
Trails in the areas are mild to wild and we will explore the area to the best ability of our vehicles. Be sure that your vehicle has recovery points in both front and rear. Without recovery points you can still join us at camp but won't be trail riding.
- One of the club members (Trail coordinator Marc?) will lead the easy loop from Camp >> easy section of Gold Mt and back >> John Bull east gatekeeper >> Holcomb Valley >> John Bull west gatekeeper >> and back to camp. This will be easy and can be done mostly in 2wd but 4Lo will also be required at some spots.
- If there's enough interest, I will organize a run through Gold Mt from gatekeeper at highway 18 >> all of John Bull from east to west >> back to camp. This loop is definitely challenging and will likely leave an indelible mark at least in our memories!
Please reply here if you plan to join. And I hope you do!
Camping is dispersed. No need to make reservationsAre we dispersed camping or have to book and reserve a site?
I did on both which I posted here except for 3N93 as a picture mapPlanned route is on Gaia or OnX?
Thought about you when I posted my pack rat complaint!!!Be happy you don’t have to pack your stuff into a 40!
Or trade it for long bed versionI need to downsize my gear!
Turning radius with the 5' bed is already worse than the Landcruiser and longer wheelbase makes the break over worse too. I do have plenty of power tho!!Or trade it for long bed version![]()
Camp Yellow post doesn’t look to far off 18, think it’s easy enough to find Thursday night?Welcome to the 2nd Annual Big Bear A Thon of 2024.

The camp is easy for me to find at night but I am pretty familiar with the area so it really depends on your comfort level. Worst case is if you don’t find us you can always stop and camp the night then try again in the morning.think it’s easy enough to find Thursday night?
