Hi all.. just wanted to start a thread about my latest engineering/design challenge - the addition of a CNG (compressed natural gas) system to my LJ78 which combines CNG with diesel fuel to augment both economy but also power.. just picking up my kit this weekend in North California - then the fun will start - give me a shout if you have experience in this type of addition or are interested in the outcome.. one interesting tidbit - the CNG pressure reduction units (from 3600psi to 1 atm) (2) require a radiator water flow to keep them from freezing - looks like it might be a good source of cold for an intercooler... hmmmm

Interesting. I know nothing about CNG, but I do inject methanol/water. One problem I've had is the methanol pre-ignites causing engine knock in the summer months (hot ambient) when I run a 50/50 mix and am at full boost. If I run a 30/70 mix meth/water in summer, then I'm usually ok. Not sure if CNG will pre-ignite or not; just something to think about. When you couple the high compression ratio with high boost, precombustion temperatures are very high. I do have a water/air intercooler to lower intake temps also.

Interesting idea you have about using the CNG equipment to cool the intercooler. If that doesn't work out, you can use the coolant feed that goes through the throttle body. Easy hoses to access. I disconnected mine when I removed the throttle plates from my throttle body. You'll still get added benefit of cooling the coolant further (2LTE needs all the cooling it can get...haha).

Just to wake up an old thread but I am doing research now on this subject and wanted to see if you ever made any progress or how it went. Surprised there isn’t more interest in this especially now.
