The past few days, I have been hearing a “ting” sound for a second or 2 upon start up and shutdown. Not sure if it is the starter or something else. If anyone has experienced this sound and can point me in the right direction, most appreciated.

I’ve been driving down some pretty bumpy roads recently, and just thought the skid plate was loose and rattling, but that is bolted down tight. The starter bolts tight as well.

I have a solid mass fly wheel, if that helps narrow anything down. just sounds like something is Hanging up for a second or two.

Thanks.

Make sure the crank pulley bolt is tight (if loose, the crank pulley/shaft key way might be getting ruined). Also inspect the pulley to make sure it's intact. (My original failed at the rubber seam and was coming apart - had to buy a new one).

I could see the starter causing noise on startup, but not shutdown.

Also check all your idlers/pulleys to make sure no bearings are worn or loose.

Exhaust can also hit frame or body near the motor?

And take a look at engine mounts. (I've also had to replace mine as they originals were torn).

I second the check for Exhaust mounts. I used to have an exhaust that was close to my bumper and with the right lug of the engine would make a very clear "Ding". Check for wear marks anywhere your exhaust may be close/damaged mounts.
