Hello All!

I just bought a 1987 HJ75. It has a 2H with an ARB Turbo. (about 440,000km on her) I am admittedly a 'newbie' when it comes to diesels, but have concern over a 'knock' I am hearing. I know the 2H is a loud rattle can, but the 'knock' I am hearing is reminiscent of a knock I had in a 2F motor after a low end bearing started to fail.

I posted a video to youtube which captures the 'knock':

SO. Normal? Abnormal? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers,

Jon

Sounds kind of like lifter/valve train knock to me. Also, check the injector lines and make sure they are not touching anything except through a rubber isolater. The injector supposedly can cause some kind of knocking sound to resonate through improperly isolated injector lines. I've never experienced this, but have heard of others who have.

Thanks Don, I'll check into the injector lines. After further listening, I agree its at the top end. I'm going to start with a valve adjustment and see if that helps.

We ran gulf western at work in two Detroit 550 engines, 1 x fh12 420 and there now all oil burners. I know off a local guy who ran it in his Hilux and it spun a bearing two weeks later. Be very careful guys as oils ain't oils sole. :)
