Hi All,

I'm in the final stages of prep work to pull my 1986 2F out. I have done the following:

- Disconnected everything from the 2F engine-bay side
- Removed the top nuts to the engine mounts
- Removed the bottom nuts to the transmission mount
- Disconnected the clutch release cylinder via its 2 bolts
- Removed the 4 bolts at the bellhousing-transmission connection
- Removed the hood and radiator support

Is there anything I'm missing? Goal is to disconnect the engine from the transmission and remove the engine via crane, so I can put it on a stand and work on it during the rest of the winter.
 
exhaust, throttle linkage, fuel lines, all electrical, rad out, what did you do with the a/c? , rear heat hoses,
no need to remove the trans mount nuts, just the 4 between the trans and bellhousing

use a good quality engine stand, the 3 wheel setups are not good for these engines, it needs 4 wheels with a wide foot print, these engines are heavy
 
Yes all of that is already out or disconnected. It was easier to remove the lower nuts of the transmission mount than the 4 from mount to trans. I'm just trying to figure out what's left that's preventing me from getting the engine to disconnect from the transmission... Or am I just not lifting the engine enough yet? Should they just come apart as I lift? I have 2-ton lift and stand with an engine balancer for the crane.
 
you need to remove the 4 bolts that hold the transmission to the bellhousing
that is the only way to separate the trans from the engine assembly
using a floor jack on the transfer case will aid in keeping it from tipping

the crossmember mount does not need to be disconnected if the trans is staying in the frame

There’s 4 bolts that hold the trans to the bellhousing. Undo those and all the trans/t-case stuff and drop that out the bottom: back and down. Then the engine out the top. I haven’t pulled a 60 engine yet but I don’t think there’s room to get the engine off the trans input shaft with the front end pieces in place. Unless you take off all front accessories maybe?

yes it is possible to leave the trans in place, remove rad and condenser and top rail of core support, gives plenty of room to slide forward and remove the engine, using a floor jack to keep trans in alignment

looking at the OP's sig line he has diesels listed, the bellhousing comes out with the engine, it does not stay with the trans

On the F series engines I tend to put bellhousing on in the vehicle just for ease of fitment, though it’s a pain up under there. Unless the body is off of course.

I have no experience with the Toyota diesels.
 
So considering that I have removed the 4 bolts from bellhousing to transmission, I should be able to just lift it out?

once it separates, you will need to slide the engine forward 8-10" to clear the trans input shaft, then you can go vertical with the engine, and again a floor jack under the transfer as it will want to tip back wards on the crossmember
 
Why not take it out in one go? its way easier to separate the trans from the engine when its on the ground

Well, I'm doing it alone, in my driveway, and would like to just do the engine for now. I've read through the threads about this before that talk about the pros cons of taking the whole drivetrain out - I'm just trying to see if there is anything I'm missing regarding just removing the engine. I guess I'll just have to figure it out since there's not a definitive answer.
 
Update - I have removed the front mounts entirely, supported by the crane now. Trying to pry-bar the bellhousing with no luck. It's in neutral... I don't know what else to do besides pull harder? :D
