So i'm about to replace just about every engine hose/power steering, smog etc... I could get from the dealer. I have notice about 3-4 different style of hose clamps, some with screws (that screws into a square nut type thing), some traditional hose clamps (metal band type) and some that just require pilers to open.

Can I swap all these for the metal band type?
Should I go buy new exact replacements?
or should I reuse the old ones?

Thanks

I never saw a 60 engine bay brand new, but I'm convinced that not a single conventional, american-style, band-type hose clamp was used in there originally.
Everyone seems to replace them with the band-types, which are mechanically superior anyway, IMO.

I dunno, i kinda like the spring clips. They are a lot easier to use and if its just something like a vacuum hose its not like you have to worry about high pressure blowing the hose off. I think that falls into the dont fix whats not broke category.

The Toyota "double wire" clamps are far superior to the 'murrican worm clamps IMHO. First, the psi along the wires is considerably higher for the same tension on the "loop". Second, there are two "bands of constriction" instead of one. Third, the edges aren't sharp like worm clamps so they don't cut the hose.

In the thread referenced by NoCal someone noted that worm clamps are prone to vibrating loose.

I tried to modify Toyota ones to fit my Vortec but got them too small to use. Really pissed me off. Now I have cheap-ass worm clamps.
