I am in the process of a 1979 FJ40 restoration. I want to stay with a 2F engine and drive train. Can someone recommend an experienced 2F rebuilder in the Northern Virginia area? I would prefer to use someone within a reasonable driving range of home, if possible.

I plan to do the engine removal and installation, but I want an experienced hands performing the engine rebuild.

Are there recommendations out there? I've been searching forums and web sites and would appreciate further input

Its a pretty simple engine design. If you can pull the engine and trans assy you could rebuild your engine. Pick up a factory manual. Source a local machine shop.

keep me posted

Hey there. I've got an 80 that I'm working on and live in Richmond. Let me know what you find out. The guys at Iron Pig are good guys, I'm not sure they do engine work but i'm sure they know someone who does. PM me if you want to get together on FJ40 stuff....

Have you tried posting in the Capital Land Cruiser Club [CLCC] forum. They are northern VA based, and probably know quite a few shops for different kind of work in your area. The club is a great group of guys to wrench and wheel with. I've made the effort to fly back east to hang with them three times in the last year.

Best

Thanks for the input. I've made what seems to be 2 promising contacts.
