I recently put a pertronix flamethrower ignition and coil on my 2F. I put new plugs, wire and cap on as well but now i have a backfiring issue. I played with fuel mixture, vacuum, everything I could think of. Am I missing something? Thanks

Backfiring can either be from spark at the wrong time or unburned fuel from a cylinder that didn't fire exploding in the exhaust.
I would start by double checking the order of the wires on the distributor. That's an easy mistake to make.
You didn't say that you verified the timing. Do that if you haven't.
Then when the timing light is in your hand, clamp it on each plug wire one at a time and verify that each plug is firing by watching for a flash.
Finally, when you put the coil in, did you have a ballast resistor and is it gone now?

While backfires are almost always electrical related instead of fuel related, another possibility is Landcruisers have an anti-backfire valve on the front end of the air injector manifold, perhaps your's is bad???

Under what circumstances does it backfire? Engine braking? Acceleration? Randomly?
Does it backfire out the tail pipe or the carb?

Jim, you're right that there are any number of things it could be (eg.another recent poster found a missing plug in his intake manifold).
I tend to lean toward one of the many things he changed. It would be highly coincidental that when he changed the igniter, coil, wires, plugs, cap... and at the same time something else failed.
