So was going to get 285/60 KO2's since my local toyota has buy 3 get 1 free sale right now. Problem is they can't get the 285/60 but can get the 285/65. I know the 60's are D range and the 65's are E range. I'm tempted and have read on here a lot of people going to the 65. Do you have any regrets and is the E range higher pressure rougher ride a real issue and real noticeable or has it caused you any other issues im not thinking of? Would like to get the buy 3 deal, but willing to go elsewhere to get the 60's if required. Thanks for any feedback! Should also add im stock but will add bud built sliders.

For my needs, I'm happy to deal with a bit rougher ride than the additional sidewall. That said, I'm also used to full SCCA track suspensions, so perhaps that's not saying much. I will say that the ride is definitely noticeably firmer with E rated tires.

A huge number of people on here moved to 285/65R18, knowing what they were getting with E range. So while all those folks (me included) would say that they have no regrets, we were obviously not very concerned about keeping the most plush ride possible to begin with. Also keep in mind that the E range tires usually weight a lot more, too.

What's your use case? If you will only ever do highway driving, then sticking with D range would be ideal.

285/65R18 tire pressure for 200-series is 42 psi. In my experience, I've noticed a pretty big difference in softness vs firmness between 40 and 42 psi, which I wouldn't have originally guessed. So while you "should" use 42 psi, you could probably toy with it to a very small degree for a reasonable tradeoff.

I recently swapped out my Terra Grappler G2s for the KO2 (stayed with LT285/65R-18). I have an Icon Stage 6, 2.5” lift, no spacers.

I run them at 45psi. Ride smooth, no rubbing, and no regrets.

Highly recommended. Lots of great tires out there!

I’ve had KO2s in LT285/65R18 in D load and now run LT285/70R17 in E load and I couldn’t tell the difference. My opinion is there isn’t much difference in feel between D & E load for my driving and use.

Just FYI Costco has a small discount on KO2s right now and they have both your sizes as well as 275/70. I used to get tires from Toyota on the buy 3/get 1 promotions but I got tired of the limited selection. Shopped around a bit and figured out that Costco is cheaper anyway if they carry what I want.

On tire size.com pressure calculator it tells me the 60 D tire should be 46psi and the 65 E tire should be 42psi?? Is that right? Lesser pressure equals smoother ride? Would have thought it would be opposite of those calcs.

Is that a national Toyota deal right now on BFGs?
Not sure if national and not just on KO2's. Guy actually said its not supposed to be on KO2s but he would honor it for the 65 E

@jivewalker

In “general”: A higher volume LT tire (65 vs 60) can get by with less air pressure at the same load.

That said, I run 45psi on an LT285/65R-18 due to the hundreds of lbs of bumpers, roof rack, rock sliders, underbody sliders.

Before you jump on the 4th tire free deal, get the total installed price. Those first 3 tires may be jacked up in price. Discount Tire will match if they are not already lower. And Costco is usually a good deal but if the size you want is not listed in their computer for the LC, they won’t install them. In any event, get the tire you want, even if it cost more. They last too long to end up with regrets.

I agree. I’ve only purchased from Discount Tire for years—and have never regretted a single deal on any vehicle.

Discount Tire provides a 5% Veterans discount as well—which is enough for me to give them my business.

Im still on the frnce here knowing the psi is lower on the E tires. My head wants me to believe 42 would be smoother than 46 on the D tires. I have analysis paralysis at this point. Oh, and the E might rub at full lock.

Probably due to KO3 being round the corner.
Its a toyota buy 3 get 1 free deal on all tires, nothing to do with ko2's. They dont even show them at the dealer, I specified them.

I have 285/60 ko2s on my all stock suspension '20 that were on the truck new when I bought it. D range. I do a lot of highway and in town driving. I have an 80 with E range and when I first got the 200 the ride was horrible compared to my 80. 80 felt plush 200 felt jarring over bumps and backend might kickout if on a sweeper it i hit some bumps or uneven pavement. Hated the handling. I was following the 45 pound RCTIP. I hated it. Flame away but I lowered my CTIP to 40 and it totally changed and the ride feels normal and I love it. When I wear thru these I will be going to the 285/65 and I'll set the CTIP at a comfortable pressure which might be the recommended 42 or maybe 40 or who knows???

Thats exactly what im doing. For the 65E its right at 2k out the door with alignment for 5.
I ran a quick price check and that’s almost the same 5 tire out the door price at either Discount Tire or if you ordered them from the Tire Rack and had them installed at Discount Tire. So nothing special about the dealer sale.

Since you have analysis paralysis anyway, I’ll just make a quick observation that if ride is your concern, there are possibly better choices than either a D or E rated tire. Do you need the KO2 for your use?
