$.25 freeze plug + "while you're in there" = my complete engine rebuild

It is 2:54 am and I am so pumped. When the key turned over and the newly rebuilt 4.6 L fired to life it was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.

An all OEM rebuild with parts courtesy of Beno took Betty up to a 4.6 liter due to a +1mm overbore of the cylinders. Wow is this thing powerful. Went on a 20 mile test drive and received nothing but pure enjoyment and smooth engine operation.

A few exceptions to the OEM rebuild were things like a firewall heater and PHH hose. Or the Clevite thrust washers. Or the Hastings chrome piston rings.

Here are the final pictures of the engine rebuild.

Great work man! Give it a good break-in and you're good to go!

From a fellow SE PA FZJ80 owner, congrats! I am very curious how much my 255k engine has lost compared to a fresh engine. Wanna race sometime? ;)

Hello this is shane Ober the son from the original post about his first valve job. I just wanted to clarify that when you brought the head in you clearly explained to me that you had didn't really have any idea what you were doing and that your mechanic told you to bring your head in and have it checked out. You previously had gotten an estimate from my father via phone. When you brought your head in I gave you and estimate on your head with a lower and upper range. You appeared to be fine with that. You next brought in a valve cover that you wanted to look like new and needed spark plugs seals removed and reinstalled which we did in addition to the head estimate. I noticed you posted pictures of your valve cover freshly painted. You are welcome for cleaning it basically for free. No work was completed on your head without your go ahead. If you can find a machine shop to do a valve job on a 24 valve solid lift head and do it right for what we did it for I will pay you the difference in the estimate. I take great pride in what I do and do not cut corners. My work is measured and exact and doing jobs right comes off my bottom line more than my customers. If you want to slander me and my business online that is not ok and if there is a problem take it up with the source and please don't resort to these tactics. I saw an article in the lancaster paper about the good work you did restoring a parade and thought you were a great guy and your review was brought to my attention and I couldn't believe it. I am not and have never been in the business of ripping people off. I have an engineering degree from Lehigh university and if I wanted to be rich doing something I hate I would, but I love what I do and that is why I do it. Dissatisfied customers do not make me happy. Call me if there is a problem. I take pride in my work and obviously you take pride in your truck. You came to the right place originally, your head left better than new. Not many shops that will do that.

Rule #1: you do not talk about fight club.

Price seems to be somewhat in line with the going rate of these heads. Paid $605 from a reputable shop that knows what they were doing. Not the cheapest, but I have a piece of mind.

Full valve grind and decked head .004"
