can anyone recommend a good battery to use in the 24volt systems ?
one of mine blew up so i want to replace both since they are the same age.
i know the optima yellow top is a good battery but is pretty pricey.

thanks

i have group 24 batteries. and they dont seem to fit verry good.

also one of my terminals is hitting on the hood any tips on fixing that ?
or just put some cardboard on the hood ?

Do a search in this forum for optima and 24v. Last I remember ready is that the optimas (and other similar batteries) don't do well in the 24v application.

Ihave had 1st hand on this statement above

I got 2 good batteries from Autozone and they have lasted 4years so far , I went thru 2 sets (4) red tops in less time then that

Factory location with factory trays? I wonder why they wouldn't fit? Do you have the posts oriented the right way?

Maybe shoot a pic of your battery location and post them up.

I had bad luck with two pairs of Optima batteries. Some people are just slow. :D

here are some pic's the terminal closest to the fender is the one hitting. also maybe because my hood is a little low on that side.

When you buy your new batteries, buy the ones that have the terminals oriented so they are towards the back of the truck, not close to the front like the way you have now...look at the attached pic.

You can also adjust the screw with the rubber bumper on that side to make it a touch higher to make your hood level with your fender. But...the way your battery posts are oriented is going to make the difference, not so much the slight dip on your hood. The hood slopes and there's more clearance towards the back.

That's the (+) terminal that's touching...so you were shorting out whenever it touched your hood?!? Get a cheapo plastic cover for your (+) terminals...lol. :)

Cheers.

You can see how much that hood slopes with this angle of Graham's truck. Notice how much clearance there is for the battery terminals towards the rear of the truck compared to the front.

oo ya for sure now i see.
are they like a special kind of battery that has the posts on the other side?

ok n/m i see what he did just flip them around and extend that negative.

thanks

I've had very good service from a pair of CdnTire Nautilus Marine batteries. [Exide in the US]. The Optimas lasted through one winter, and the Nautilus batteries have gone through three bitterly cold Cdn winters and are still going as strong as the day I bought em. Annual service involves popping the caps and topping up the cells with distilled water. Do that and your batteries will last much longer.

Mike: Graham just extended his cables, but if you go to NAPA, they have two versions of their Group 27 batteries so you can have the terminals on the proper side and not have to extend and cross your cables. Do a quick search and you'll find threads (I forget the part number off hand).

Cheers.

i just called the battery guy and changed my order to the one with terminals on the other side. its called a size 27F if anyone needs to know.

For better or worse my two Optima yellows have lasted quite a while- doesn't get cold here compared to Canada though....

Yup...that's the one. You need one of each kind, IIRC.

one of each kind ? really ?
s*** .

I think so...two 12V batteries in series, right? So you will need the terminals of the two batteries to be opposites to each other to hook them up the way the factory meant them to. The (-) of the high side will be connected to the (+) of the low side by the cable that goes across the top of your fan shroud.

Shouldn't be a problem getting the other battery though...it should be regular stock for NAPA.
