I lost compression on #1 cylinder from a burnt exhaust valve and want to have my head rebuilt. I don't mind spending the money, but want it done right. I am in Massachusettes and am wondering if anyone knows of a machine shop that is familiar with the LC heads in the NH, MA, CT, RI, ME, VT, NY area? I would even be willing to ship it to someone if the advice is to have the head rebuilt by someone with experience. I am hesitant to just drop it of at the local shop and be the first Cruiser head they have rebuilt. I am looking at new seals, guides (if needed), seat cut (not ground) and any other parts needed to bring it back from the dead. Does Christo offer this service? He has been great with my suspension build-up and I trust his advice. I tried searching the threads with no advice. Sorry if this has been covered before. And yes, the head gasket will be replaced as well as all new belts, hoses etc.

Thanks.

Call your local toyota dealer's service department and ask where they send their DOHC heads out to to have work done.

I called a number of dealers and quite a few stated the same place so I was pretty confident when I took my head to be rebuilt.

Order a used Head from Cristo at Slee Offroad. That way you know it is done right.

Couple of guys from MA on this board..

Rick AKA "Landtank" lives in Groveland MAand "WRENCH"..he lives by Franklin I think..and a few others might be able to point you in the direction of a good local shop.

Not sure if you are familiar with it but you can also get onto the YANKEE TOYS email list..there aare lots of new england cruiser heads on that distribution list. They can offer tons of options/advice.

There's nothing magic about the 1fzfe head. Any competent machine shop will be able to handle it.

Any members had experience with either Clearwater Cylinder Head in Florida or ADC Cylinder Heads in San Antonio, Texas?

Clearwater said they could perform a complete rebuild of my head including setting up the cams for $350 - $400 depending on the amount of work needed.

ADC advertises a complete rebuilt 4.5 head, including cams, for $449.00 plus $24.95 shipping. They advertise that they can rebuild a supplied head for around $245.00. I have yet to call them to see if they have a 4.5 in stock.

If the saying is true, "you get what you pay for", I'm concerned that ADC can do a quality job for only $245.00. Maybe this doesn't include the price of setting up the cams. I will know more once they open and I can talk with them. Just looking to see if any other members have used either company and if so, were you happy with their work?
