Does anyone have a pic of this combo on a lifted or stock height FJ60? I am experimenting on getting better mpgs and am trying to decide on wether to leave the truck lifted or return it to stock height. Thanks!
Things that reduce fuel milage:
Speed
Lifts
Racks
Big tires
Weight
Heavy foot
I've had four tire sizes on my 60, stock, 31's, 33X9.50 and 33X10.50 mt's. Got the same milage around town. 10. Always 10. Only way to improve it is to park it and ride my bike.
On the freeway, speed is the biggest variable. Going slow = better milage. But, the list above is real, and if I was to rebuild my 60 for best milage I would go back to stock tires, remove the rack, get rid of the lift, strip all the extra weight off, and drive slow.
Like Doug said, tires are not a magic bullet to increase mileage. I think increasing tire pressure is a help. Also, if your carburetor and emissions stuff is not right, that would be the first priority. Many people get in the 15 mpg range with consistency with properly tuned engines.
