Hello, I was looking at doing a transmission dump/fill or fluid exchange, but when I got a look at the transmission pan, it doesn’t look like the tech write ups I looked at online.

I don’t think I have a drain plug. I have a small Allen head bolt that looks like the overfill plug on write ups. Plus there is no thermostat module as in the previous threads.

I’m at 100k and figured I’d do something. Can’t find a FSM for 2020 so I’m a little confused. Thanks.

Have any pictures of the area that you're looking at? There should be a transmission pan drain bolt as well as the overflow port bolt, and fill port/bolt.

Regarding the 'thermostat module', you just need a way to measure the transmission pan temp, usually derived from an OBDII reader or I believe there's also a technique to jump the OBD port wires and enter a special temp check mode.

If you are certain that the transmission has never been serviced and you trust the factory fill, you could also measure (exactly) what comes out and put that amount back in and skip the temp check procedure.

There should be a drain plug, it is the newer style with the plastic pipe to set proper level inside once you remove the plug. I think its a 5mm hex to remove both, its not the separate drain and overflow like other models. Fill plug is on the drivers side, its covered with a black plastic piece. I dont believe there is a thermostat module

Ok now we are talking. Thanks

Here is a good thread on the topic.
There are some minor differences with the newer 8 speed trans that you have.

Use the procedure in this YouTube for a drain and fill on the 8 speed.

This is a great video. Also, he has a sheckshey voice.

How much new fluid is needed to do this process 4 times? 24 quarts?

Dear old Greg,

As far as I remember, it was closer to 12-15 qts. I still have a couple qts of WS left from when I did mine.

Thank you for your guidance. And clearly you are a man of culture to recognize Old Gregg.

Thanks everyone. Got mine done no issues.

Bought the vehicle at 50k so I doubt any service had been done. Fluid was so clean at 100,000 miles that I really don’t think I needed to do it but I already had everything bought. No brown color at all. I haven’t towed at all. No roof rack.

Definitely don’t need to worry about the filter.

Only strange thing was the plug with the tube under the overfill drain blue was completely loose.
