This past weekend I drove 3 hours to the beach and turn on Cruise Control all the way until I stopped to lower the air out of the wheels to drive on the beach. As soon as I enter the sand the Pre-Collision System Malfunction Visit to the Dealer message came up. I was thinking there may be sand or bug cover up the radar sensor so I continue to drive on the sand for 25 miles.

On the way back I check the radar sensor and it was clean. Anyway, I brought the LC back to the dealer and was told that the steering angle was out of alignment “Pulled code: C1290” they performed steering angle zero point calibration and charged me $60 labor. The LC has 14190 miles on it and I was told the charge for labor is because it’s over 12000 miles.

Is this true all the calibration adjustment only cover under 12000 mile?

Sorry for the ignorant question, but does that mean the 16+ Lc needs an alignment after every sand adventure? It doesn’t sound like you abused it to get the alignment out of whack.

I have driven on sand many times since it was new. But I google “Pre-Collision System Malfunction” and the problem seems to be very common with Toyota especially the new Tundra. I hope it is not the same with the LC.

No, I don't think this is referring to a mechanical alignment. There is an electronic calibration for the steering angle that needed a reset. It's not necessarily related to the sand driving.

That makes sense, but still worrying that it requires a trip to the dealer (with cost) after what sounds like a light outing. Does this typically happen when rock crawling a bit as well?

No one in the Telluride get together mentioned it and we had several 2016+ LCs.

Sorry to hear your troubles. So they are charging you for an electronic device going out of calibration after using your 80k Toyota top of the line off-road vehicle as it was intended? I would have challenged that in a heart beat. Was the physical alignment nut/bolt alignment out of spec? The can call it an “alignment” but it’s not. Maybe more to the story but I hope you contacted corporate and start looking for another dealer.

I get PCS System errors typically when driving across country on an uphill grade. Heavy rain can also cause it to err as well.

Haven't noted at what altitudes it does that, but should start taking notes about that issue.

I sent a letter to Toyota today and the representative from Toyota called back and ask me if the dealer told me why they charged the labor cost and I told them yes they ask me if I was involved in an accident or abnormal driving and I told them no. He said he couldn't reach the dealer service manager... he will get back with me as soon as he get in touch with the dealer.

Might be the VGRS (variable gear ratio steering) reset which unlocks the gears so you can center the steering wheel if it's off center. Can do with tech stream, I did it in my driveway in about 5 minutes. $60 seems excessive.

I’ve had it in heavy rain and snow. Went away as soon as rain lessened or I cleared the snow off the sensor.

I experience this after rain or a car wash. I checked / cleaned my sensor, but it hasn't improved. It typically goes away within a day, but this time it's been a few days and I still experience it. Do I possibly have an area where water is getting in and possibly the computer is getting wet?

Does anybody know what the proper process and cleaner you are supposed to use to clean the pre-collision system sensor?

Ive had the PCM light illuminated on our 2018 Sahara on and off for last 9 months. I couldn't nail it to a specific driving condition or weather type. it would come on between 45min and 1.5 hours into a drive. and would then drop out again and sometimes I would disconnect both batteries when arriving at a destination for a 10 minutes and it would be good to go again light out. Yesterday I removed the intercooler air dam and front grille to get to the mess of wiring all over the place from previous owner for light bars, halos, airline and few other bits. I then started the slow process of rerouting and securing the mess behind the grille and disconnecting every connector spraying it with contact cleaner and applying dialectic grease to each contact before reassembling it. The light is now off again, as to the exact reason Im still unsure. There are no longer wires everywhere and the radar is clear of all other wiring. Not test driven yet! However for now the light is off. will update once I drive it a bit to see what happens...

For now Im happy
