Took my LC to oregon this weekend 1020 mile trip from socal.

loaded with 6 grown men, with a xxl
cargo box on top thats filled with stuff.

here's the problem, from 50-80mph

when i hit uneven pavement on the freeway the land cruiser starts rocking left to right like a boat on anchor, no exaggeration its exactly like a boat on choppy waters.

its so annoying!!!!

not sure why, maybe my load is too heavy?
i had a sequioa before with loads much heavier and it was normal.

tried to pump up more psi on tires, tried even weight distribution on our cargo to. o avail

Have you, or anyone, done any work involving the KDSS? Your symptoms sound like the KDSS is not inhibiting body roll at speed as designed - almost as if a KDSS shutter valve(s) was left open.

Just a thought.

completely stock suspension, only has 2k miles.

this might be the cause can anyone confirm this theory?

Its a feasible theory for sure.

If KDSS were loosened for some reason (the screw could have been left three turns loose...) or it it simply failed or lost it's very high pressures...it could be loose/wobbly.

ok ill check, if its loose the it should be the source of the problem, is the adjustment per click? or is it just a normal screw that i need to tighten if loose? havent really played with kdss systems.

cant believe this is happening on 2k mile LC

If the KDSS screw turns easily, Do NOT loosen it (counter clock-wise loosens it, just like most screws) ANY further!! If you discover it is loose...make sure you are on level ground and unladen...(so your aren't locking in a tipped stance) and tighten clockwise until it stops.

If that is not the case and it's already tight (it would be really weird to find that screw loose), then I'd be heading straight to Toyota for warranty checking.

^^^ What he said;)

could it be an electrical signal issue? because it happens 70% of the time the other 30% of situations i go over bumps it seemed fine, but then again it might just be me who thinks that.

i think im going to try and unhook the battery and hook it back up, you guys think this will perform some kind of reset on the stuff that electonically controls the kdss?

thats is if the kdss system is controlled by a conputer, is it? or nah?

Nah. The KDSS is 100% hydraulic (at approx. 600psi BTW). No computers, no electronic sensors, nothing electronic.

Here's a good video showing how the system works:

I have the 16LC an I am experiencing the same especially with weight inside. When was transporting 5 wheels w/ tires in the back it was really bad. I assume it was just because of heavy truck vs. my previous sports car. Since I am not off roading and most off roading is on beaches, I am moving to 20 inch wheels this week to put more stability (looks like you have done that already).

Welcome to the world of mods.
Stock land cruisers do no like lots of extra weight.
If this is going to be a frequent occurrence you're going to need a minimum new shocks or springs and shocks.

My opinion, but I believe this feel is partially because of KDSS itself from my experience with it in a GX470. So take this with a grain of salt as I've never driven a KDSS equipped LC.

When driving straight ahead, KDSS (or sway resistance), is relaxed. So there's relatively little roll resistance and nautical body motions do seem more pronounced. In a turn, the system tightens up immediately and turns very flat. But straight ahead does seem a bit soft laterally. Especially if one comes from driving a car with stiff traditional sway control.

Outside of this, I'd bring it back to the dealership to check your alignment. It's not unheard of that an alignment needs to be done because of settling.

I would also strongly suggest distributing the weight by inviting a few WOMEN along next time! ;)

The stock LC shocks are pretty soft. If it's not the KDSS then I'm guessing the stock shocks are just not dampening enough for the load you are carrying, especially if you have a heavy load on roof.

Depending on the weight of the people and the box up top, you may have been exceeding GVWR and the first thing to go wonky on the '16 would probably be the shocks and springs...

This could be even more pronounced if the tires were not aired up enough to compensate for the payload.

Try this.
Stand on the side step and grab that roof rack. Now rock it back and worThe with all your weight.
You're getting a lot of side to side movement right? That's normal for stock. I'm not saying.it right but it's normal. If you want something more controlled then you're looking at shocks and springs.
There quite a few guys here who have tested a few different setips who can help you out with what you're trying to do.
Comfort, towing, carrying 6 men Whatever. We've got you covered.

On a happy note... If it is just the need for stronger springs/front coil-overs, those can be upgraded for around $1000 including all four corners +install.

If you determine it is suspension limitations, I'd suggest calling @sleeoffroad and talking to them about your specific use. They'll address your concerns, and will not talk you into things you don't need.

I can tell you that my 2008 LC drove 11,000 miles between two separate trips within the last year. Both times, it was HEAVILY loaded with gear...and on over half those miles, included two guys who weight about 500 pounds together...plus gear literally loaded to the ceiling. No problems whatsoever on what would be considered medium load springs in back and coil-overs in front.

The other good news if you decide to upgrade suspension is that it handles much better, though perhaps a bit more firmly...but talk to the shop about exactly what your preferences/goals are and they will address it.

(all of this assumes you just have an overloaded suspension... If it's a KDSS failure, that's it's own issue).

how big are the dudes? Something is wrong forsure, I've had 8 people with a heavy car topper on stock suspension and driving at 70-80MPH halfway across the country. I agree with the others, something is up with your KDSS! A good aftermarket suspension will def help also!:)

i just think that for the amount of money we pay for this truck, it should do what its suppose to do, like i said my 15k$ oldass sequoia rides better which is a shame
