Greetings all! I've been lurking for several months and just recently pulled the trigger on a demo 2016 with 13k miles. I came from an RX350 which served me well and set a high bar so pardon the complaints, but just wondering if anyone has had experience with the following issues:

- Seems to be a ticking, almost like an exhaust leak but quieter between 1500 and 3000 rpm, I have read about tundras having something similar and it being valve train noise? Seems worse after its warm.

-Back plastic of steering wheel rubbing the steering column on warm days?

-Drive train whine around 40mph under slight load? Thought it was a heat shield rattling at first but now sounds more like gear/bearing whine.

I'm planning on bringing all up at the next service and just wanted to document it here first and see what other owners have found. I also have the second row seat rattle which others have mentioned here so hoping these others are nothing serious.

On the positive side here are some pics:

When I was looking for my 200, I found that several I drove were louder than others. Not scientific at all, but here were my thoughts back then 200 engine loud?. The one I ended up buying is extremely quiet and makes virtually no noise, but it seems like there is some variation between each truck.

Haven't noticed any of those on my '17.

Lexus' are quieter than Toyotas... so I'd expect some more noises.
Also there's the car/cuv vs. body on frame, as well as V6 to V8 going on here.

Compared to the Lexus' and even Buick's I've had - the 200 is loud wind box, brick in the wind.
But it's pretty good compared to other body on frame wind boxes - i.e. LX, Escalade, etc...

If I'm right on what you're hearing... I'd venture that ticking noise is the exhaust system trying to keep things quiet.
I've described it like a piece of rice rattling around in a PVC pipe. Toyota decided on quiet instead of the V8 rumble typically found on trucks.

You'll notice the drone/whine is there too. Here too if I'm right in what you're hearing- it's the truck holding on to a gear longer than a car would. So you hear a drone while it hangs on the RPMs.

The steering thing is just the cheap plastic that all interiors suffer from. The dealer should try to help there with some grease or replacement. Trouble is repeating the issue in front of a tech at the dealer.

In all cases try to repeat what you hear in front of the dealer to see if they can help.

This statement supports anyone's claim that God does indeed have a sense of humor. We all know its virtually impossible to recreate normally clearly audible sounds for a service advisor. It's like the Bermuda Triangle of creaks, rattles, and malfunctions.....they all disappear once you turn into that service bay lane!

True about that. If it's one thing that Toyota tries to avoid more than getting sued, it's paying for warranty work.

Even if you can repeat a noise for the dealer, unless it's fallen off or on fire they still might not fix it.

Strongly enough I've had a better dealer experience at GM than Toyota.
If I didn't have to buy from a Toyota dealer in the first place I'd never set foot in one.

I took my truck into the dealership for a squealing sound. My truck is fully built and has massive evidence of it's wheeling life..

The dealership said nothing other than "wow your truck looks amazing!"

They proceeded to look at the truck and called me a couple days later to come get it.

I came to pick up the truck and they told me they replaced the alternator. They did not try to give any pushback about the conditions under which I was clearly using my truck--I was right at 18,000 miles on the odometer in my 2015 rig. They covered it under warranty no questions asked.

I just mention this as a counter anecdote to Toyota not wanting to warranty anything. I think it depends more on the dealership.

Yea it does depend on the dealership. The one I visited sucks and for me it reflects on the brand as a whole.

18k and the alternator was already failing? Interesting.

Yea they won't mention anything about mods or use. Legally they can't void the warranty or deny coverage for off-road use, using aftermarket parts, or performing vehicle modifications. (Magnuson–Moss)
