So the quest to upgrade the front and rear brake for my 200 begins. Was going for the pre 2016 Tundra brake caliper and rotor upgrade, now I know the 2016 Tundra has bigger front caliper but same rotor and splash shields as previous years. I am trying to find out if the 2016 cruiser has bigger front calipers and rotors like the 2016 Tundra. The parts number appeared to be different for both cruiser and Tundra. The rear caliper for 2016 200 and Tundra both have different part number but same rotor as previous year model, so possible more powerful rear caliper as well perhaps bigger piston?

For 2016 cruiser owner who upgrade from pre-2016 cruiser, do you feel improvement in braking?

The 2016 LC has the same size rotors as the 2007-2015 Tundra, according to Centric. I'm not sure if the 2016 Tundra is the same or not.

Yes even the 2015 Tundra and the 2016 LC rotors are different part #'s. I don't know why since they're the same size. Maybe there's some infintessimally small difference between them?

Both the front and the rear calipers are different part #'s starting in 2016, but the front pads are the same as 2015 (I haven't checked the rears).

If I can find a Toyota dealer who has both front calipers in stock in their parts dept (2015 LC and 2016 LC) I would compare them and take photos. I suspect there's a slight difference due to the increased rotor size but not a significant change since the pads are the same part number.

I'm curious about this as well. Most likely the answer is yes if for no other reason than the owner would have gone from brakes with mileage on them to a new vehicle with less (or no) mileage on them.
One thing @bjowett noted is that the brake lines on the LC don't fit the Tundra calipers without some modification. Given the 2016 LC front rotors are larger, when I need to upgrade my 2013 brakes (I'm at 60k now on what I believe are the original pads and rotors) I will likely buy the 2016 LC parts (rotors, calipers, and splash shield) and swap them over unless someone else uses other components (e.g 2016 Tundra) successfully first and claims there's a significant difference.

Ok, just found out that the 2016 Tundra caliper WILL NOT fit pre 2016 Tundra as knuckle is different, mounting bolt size different as well, so it will not fit. Unless replace knuckle as well or possibly machine the mounting hole bigger to fit on pre-2016 Tundra or 200, not sure of the later though. So for sure 2016 Tundra caliper is not a simple bolt on as pre-2016 caliper. For that reason, it will not bolt on pre-2016 200 series cruiser as well.

The 2016 200 has different part number on the knuckle as well compare to pre-2016 cruiser, so it can be the very same case like 2016 Tundra unless proven otherwise. Will update if I find out about the 200 series parts.

Hi,
Apologies for being crap. I got in touch with Brian Jowett who said he's discontinued his kit due to 2016 being basically the same and there's a thread with parts. I've tried but this is the closest I can come to finding it! If anyone can let me know parts to go from a 2012 us model 5.7 to 354mm rotors and calipers I will be very grateful. Pm or post part nos for or point to link I was too dim to find!

ranma21, thanks for sharing that info.

Have you done anything to upgrade your brakes since?

I'm looking to upgrade mine soon but still awaiting compatibility info on the 2016 LC200 calipers to the pre-2016 cruisers. Given your Tundra info, I suspect it is not a drop-in. Though I hope it might be.

Swapped from a 2014 to 2016 about three months ago. I am running stock suspension (with front leveling spacer) but bigger tires - exact same setup as before . I had the dealer put the tires from the 2014 on my 2016. I notice no difference in braking distance or feel. This is purely subjective. Hope that helps.

You swapped tires or brake rotors/calipers? Your post seems to suggest tires but this thread is regarding upgrading the rotor/caliper system on a pre-2016 LC.

I believe he meant he swapped Land Cruisers. From his old 2014 to a 2016 and felt no discernible difference in the brake setups. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct. Swapped Land Cruisers. Kept the same setup , thereby eliminating some variables. I noted no difference in braking between the 2014 and 2016 Land Cruiser. I had quoted a post up the chain asking if anyone had been in this situation but perhaps could've been more clear.

In the brakes the few things that make the brakes 'feel' different:

Aggressive pads
Steel braided brake lines

For heat resistance:

Carbon ceramic rotors
High temperature brake fluid

The Tundra brake kit or 2016 LC brakes are not designed to give you a Porsche brake feel, it's supposed to help in extreme situations such as towing or going down mountain passes. In day to day driving it's hard to find a difference (unless of course you hustle this awesome engine for all its got in traffic haha).

Nothing has been done so far, pretty much make up my mind, gathering parts now, going for the EBC 7000 series greenstuff front brake pad and 6000 series rear brake pad with new OEM front and rear rotor, steel braided brake line and new brake fluid. Since I spend most of the time doing street driving and not towing, I see no point of going for drilled and slotted rotor. I was thinking to go for DBA 4000 series T3 rotors.

The 2016 LC and pre2016 LC has different caliper and knuckle parts number, but the same part number for brake piston. I do not see how the 2016 caliper will provide more powerful braking having the same size piston and same brake pad. If you just go for more aggressive pad and rotor with steel braided brake line you will see improvement or spend big buck with TRD Trundra brake big kit or brembo system to yield significant improvement.

The 2016 rotor has a larger diameter, so the brake pad is farther away from the hub. Therefore, the moment arm is greater, so even though the force will be the same, the torque will be higher.

That said, I doubt there will be a noticeable difference in braking -- that will more likely be controlled by the tires that you are using. What I expect will be noticeable is that the larger, heavier 2016 rotors have more resistance to overheating.

The part numbers for the rear brake pads changed between 2008-2011 LC200 (04466-60120)
and 2013-2016 (04466-60160). Does anyone know if the pads themselves changed or just the part number?
