Aside from the exterior changes any major differences between the model years? Trying to decide on a new used one.

The 2016 has big monitors in the seat head rests. It has an 8 vs 6 speed transmission. The buttons are laid out in a better manner near the center console, more intuitive. There are some other things like the leather options are different. Probably a few more covered in some of the threads here. For me, the monitors were a turn off, but I do like the way the controls are laid out better.

If you are a good negotiator for sure 16 is a way to go. Back in Nov I was able to get my for $1000 over invoice. Probably by now you can get at invoice or below. Changes are nice too. Almost all lights inside and out are LED, 8sp trans, better instrument cluster lay out, nicer speedometer, screens in the back which I got used and have not used even once yet, nicer exterior).

Good:
New 8-Speed transmission. Some have noted shifting is abrupt...others not.
-Button relocation to the center console is a good thing.
-As noted by Kreitin, the 360 camera view is VERY cool.

Not so good:
-2016 added huge screens on the backs of the front seats that are impossible to remove (unless you don't mind leaving huge hole in the seat-backs), and get in the way when folding down seats. If I want a movie in back...iPad or other tablet.
-Leather: People have been complaining about the leather in the 2016...with early creasing, wrinkles, etc. Some also note it's not a problem.

Meh:
It's still a 200 series. 200's are as solid as they come. Hard to go wrong with either version.

Personally, I would rather save a bit on a 15 (or older), and put that $$ into some sweet modifications.

Another thing to consider is if you are going to build it. I got a 2014 still under factory warranty and the delta more than paid for a complete build including lockers at Slee

If your intent on buying new and you can get the cost pretty close to the same, go 2016 hands down! The button relocation and birds eye view alone are worth it IMO... I also read somewhere that it had new bigger front brakes, if true that would be huge! If you're looking for some huge differences you won't really find them, this is just a tweak of the 200! If you're considering used, then just grab a 2014 or 2015 and put the difference in the mods as others have stated... Either way you'll be rolling a 200 series so you really can't go wrong!!! As others have stated the giant screens from the last decade in the back seat would be annoying, but I'd proly just rip them out and deal with a whole in the headrest, trust me once you get a million scratches down the sides of your rig, a small hole in the back of the headrest ain't nothing:)

MY 2016 also has few safety features added.

Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (MY13-15 have PCS without pedestrian detection)

Lane Departure Alert (not offered in previous MY)
Auto High Beams (not offered in previous MY)
Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) (not offered in previous MY)

Good point. The birds eye view thing would be awesome when out alone with no spotter (which is most of the time for me)... That's one feature I would love to have.

Totally agree with what people have said about the cameras and center switches: they were very welcome additions/changes and you may come to appreciate them.

Leather seats creasing is actually non-issue. I had initial creasing, but as soon as I have applied conditioner it got reversed and holding up very nice. Leather is just dry and need some TLC.

For curiosity, (have a 2015) what is the rock bottom uber negotiator price that some folks have been able to get on a 2016... please?

Glad to hear it! I edited my poopy original post to reflect that. ;)

In New England I have been following prices and do see some prices listed at 77.5K on autotrader for brand new 2016s.

I currently see 3 listed at that range. Interesting though that one dealer had the price listed at that range this morning but now it is 82K

Those are what I see listed on autotrader before negotiations

Good luck
John

I will wait for a 2017 hoping the screens will be gone or easier to remove. Only reason I might switch brands is if the MY17 G-Wagen will make its way to the U.S with a diesel. G320 Blue-Tec. I've heard folks who own the Diesel version getting 30mpg. One owner had 320k miles on it before trading it in for a new one. Dang Europeans get the good stuff.

Not sure what the big deal about the screens are. I don't care I never sit in the back and don't think it looks that bad.

Also we will never have a good diesel in the USA with all the emission issues. Too much maint and issues to keep running properly. The better fuel mpg is offset with the higher price of diesel over reg gas and the maint.

Emissions is similar in EU, they just get to drive them hard enough to blow the crap out.
