Hi Everyone – Here are the 2015 work days. Please put these on your club’s calendars. By next week I’ll be sending out the Adopt a Trail forms again to all of you that participated this year. If you know of other clubs that are interested please let them know to contact me. Please return the forms to me at the January work day if you can. If not please send them back to me by the February work day. Generally, again the work days are the 3rd Saturday of the month. The one exception is January, which we picked to be January 24th so it is not on MLK weekend. The other one we might switch is the June 20th one because I think that’s Father’s Day Weekend. I don’t know if you’d have plans to do stuff with your kids that weekend but I have a feeling many of you would. I’ll get a consensus later and we can decide to keep it there or move it to a week earlier or later.

Also, we may need to do several additional winter work days to get some more barricades installed. Please discuss these dates on the December 13th Rendezvous. I won’t be at that event but you can send me the dates you come up with and I’ll work out the schedule and the projects with the groups that can come.

No December Work Day.

Remember, the Uwharrie National Forest Trails Strategy meeting is December 11th from 6-8 pm at the Garner Center at 210 Burnette Street, Troy, NC. I hope you can make it. Thanks a lot everyone. I really appreciate your help on these trails. Bye - Terry

Now that my littles are not so demanding, I am going to hit a few of these this go around. Main reason I didn't come before was I couldn't bring them. Well more of I didn't want to have to worry non stop about them. So, definitely looking forward to putting in a little time to help out. Thanks for all you do with this Darin.

I will try to be at as many this year as I can be work is going to be the major problem for me

A full weekend sounds pretty good... if I know in enough time I should be able to use a vacation day to go to it.

My goal is to attend at least 6 work days this year, personally.

I propose we keep the same challenge as last year. Let's see if we can get each member in the club to attend at least one work day this year!!

Agreed, lets make a big one for the meet and greet with different groups split off to get as much done as possible

I'd really like to make one of these. This year being my first year with ONSC, I'd like to help out when there's a month with a greater need (i.e. fewer people show up/more work to be done). Are there any months like that during the year, or are they all pretty much equal importance?

They're all pretty equal in importance, but we tend to get more work done in the first couple workdays of the year.

with what Darin said...the upcoming ones before the park opens will be the most important right now to make sure a few trails stay open.

Darin posted this up on nc4x4, just passing it along.

here is the news from Terry. I might add that we have found a new UTV spider trail on the front side of Daniel by the tree that needs to be blocked.

Hi Everyone – I hope you’re all doing well. The next Volunteer Work Day is Saturday, May 16th!! I won’t be there this month as I’ll be traveling to a trails symposium in OR on Saturday. Joel Hardison will be working with you all for this work day. Jeff Greene & Pete Powell may also help out too.

Here’s the plan for this month. Meet Joel at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp at 9 am and get signed in. Continue with the installation of guardrail on Daniel Trail. These sections have been flagged already by Joel, Darin & myself. These are the sites labeled A & B and the section in-between A & B that is to be slashed in. The guardrails and posts are on site already so once every meets up and gets signed in with Joel you’ll all be able to head out to the Daniel Trail. The slashing in of the ridge line will take folks with winches that can winch trees a ways from the trail and then basically line them along the edge of the trail to make a boundary to indicate where the trail really is.

We have gotten a big supply of our fiberglass / carsonite signs in so I’ll have them ready with the “No Vehicle” signs to be put up behind the slash & guardrail and in the illegal bypasses. We appreciate your help and continued support on the trails.

Bye - Terry

I'm not going to make it this weekend, But we should show some support from the club, if anyone else can make it.

Thanks Eric

USFS update for June 13th Work Day............... Your support is needed and appreciated.

From Terry:

Hi Everyone – The next Volunteer Work Day is June 13th. Joel & I will meet you at the Uwharrie Hunt Camp at 9 am. The plan for this work day is to complete the guardrail installation at the top of Daniel Trail and to do some signing and blazing of the system trail. We will also re-install the guardrail at the top of the rock crawl on Dickey Bell Trail (if we have time).

Please bring food and water and extra augers, shovels, ratchets, shovels, sledge hammers, gloves, etc. Joel mentioned that those of you that worked at the last work day thought it might be good to have a bobcat & auger there for the Daniel Trail section that is left to do. Let me know if you’ve got someone working on getting one rented and if there will be an equipment operator among the volunteers there to help out. We can use this for in-kind matching for our grants too.

Bye the way, for the clubs that haven’t turned in their Adopt a Trail forms please email them to me before the 13th or bring them that day. I’m finally updating the information for the kiosks (instead of doing the trail signs that keep getting stolen or vandalized) and I want to make sure I have all of the current adoptees on the list when I put the signs up on all of the TH kiosks this June. I don’t have anything back from the following clubs – Bragg 4x4, UNCC Off Road, CROC, and Carolina Broncos. I know a lot of your groups are still volunteering and some new groups have talked to me but haven’t sent any paperwork back. If your club doesn’t want to adopt a trail anymore and just volunteer when you can that is ok but please email me back and let me know that is what your club wants to do.

Thanks a lot everyone. We really appreciate your help. See you on June 13th. Bye - Terry

I think We need to really create separate threads for all to see the individual work days. I found it was more in your face that they were coming up and when. Just me though.

Agreed 150%. I forgot about this one and will be out :(

Yes. Unfortunately for me I work most of these workdays now so I am going to start going up during the week to knock stuff out.

Give me some head's up on days that you'll be there and I'll try to provide some weak mind / strong back labor ... I have a little time on my hands ;)

You are doing better than me if the back is sometimes strong.

I've got a 16-yr-old and 12-yr-old who need community service for school/etc. Would this be good activity for them or are they too young and this is maybe not qualify? They are both hard workers when participating in these types of events.
