Hello,

I have this 90 deg heat shield that has rusted to the point where its vibrating very loud at 200rpm over idle and it is driving me insane. Should I just take it off? What is its purpose? What is the recommended repair; not even sure what the part number is.

Thanks!

This part does not show up in any diagrams either, should be where the left most arrow is.

Ideally weld it back on if you have the ability. Or if not maybe a friend or local forum member with a welder? If you were local to me I'd tack it back in place for you for free. Honestly it would take me longer to get my welder out and turned on than it would to put a couple tacks or a very short bead on there.

No idea on it's purpose. I'd imagine not much difference with it off, but Toyota wouldn't have just put it there for hits and giggles..

metal (Stainless Steel) zip ties work great for this type of rattle. It's pretty common that these heat shield rust to death and start rattling. Best not to remove heat shields that were put there by engineers, IMHO.

The purpose is likely to keep heat away from the tire.

Yep, went to home Depot and got a stainless steel hose clamp (the kind you screw to tighten) and it worked like a charm. Thanks!
