2013 LC200- WTF with a towing wiring harness? (2 Viewers)

So obviously some of this is my fault for inadequate prep but I went to pickup a uhaul trailer today today and after spending a ridiculous amount of time finding the wiring connection we then discovered that it’s not even a standard connection and they didn’t have a harness. I can’t seem to locate a straight answer on what to do - is there an aftermarket harness that works or does the truck require an aftermarket rewire job? My bother has a 2013 tundra which has the below connections - I was shocked the Land Cruiser doesn’t already have these connectors given the tow rating is so high!

Any thoughts on the path of least resistance to be able to legally tie a trailer?

these are the two adaptors I see under the back of the truck on passenger side - so there is an adaptor the connects into one or both of these and then the other side could connect to the uhaul trailer?

This is what you are likely missing. It plugs into existing connectors under the right side between the spare and the frame. It gives you a 7 pin trailer connector and the U-haul will need a 4 pin, so you also need a 7-4 pin adapter that's available at any parts store or big box store with an auto section. This is an ebay link, but I see at this site it's out of stock.

is a clip on wiring harness you can install on your lc. mine was missing it as well
when i bought it.
 
Thanks for that link - does that mean the vehicle does NOT require any rewiring job? both etrailer.com and Toyota dealerships have told me that I need to have the vehicle rewired, and toyota warned it could cause electrical complications down the road. I was mind blown how this vehicle isn't setup for towing out the door - even a crappy Ford explorer has connections on it....

That's correct - no re-wiring necessary, the Toyota part is plug and play.

The OEM wiring in the 7 pin connector has trailer brake power. You need to add a controller at the dashboard that plugs into an available receptacle under the left side of the dash. The controller sends the brake signal through existing wiring to the 7 pin connector. No new front-back wire needed.

Brake controller plug is under the drivers dash on the left side, kind where your left knee would be. Most companies sell a plug and play harness, at least Redarc does. TPH-021 is the one that fit my 2018.

You’ll need the harness in the back for any trailer that needs brake and marker lights. Typically a flat 4-pin plug.

The brake controller under the dash would only be for trailers that have electrically controllable brakes. Most of the cargo and car-hauler trailers from places like U-Haul big enough to need brakes have hydraulic systems that don’t need the under-dash part. They just sense what the towing ball is doing and copy that.
