Tapage,

Do you know if Panama has any exportable diesel 70 series trucks? You've probably been asked before, so I apologize for not searching.

Mark

guess it depends Mark ..

Toy Dealer ( one CO with X amount of dealers ) here in Panamá is starting to sell HZJ76 / HZJ79 / HZJ78 with some extras .. winch, OEM snorkel, lockers .. etc .. but I doubt any of those being exportable to you USA guys ... I mean USA territory ..

Long threads about those rules and terms in the 70 series section as well as Diesel Section ..

In all fairness though the trim equivalent to what you guys get in the US (VX-R in Saudi) is $80k

This is true, if you equip a 200 with leather, nav, KDSS, Atrac, airbag curtains, crawl control, sun roof, 5.7l, etc here in Saudi you are looking at a minimum of about 285,000 SAR or more, which is $76k US.

Not exaggerating, I bet at least 1 out of every 10 vehicles on the road here is a 200 series, and 3 out of those 10 are some sort of LC.

The big difference is that for some reason Mr. t decided to only sell top of the line LC's in the US. If they offered diesel, or 4.6l or manual with cloth cloth and no nav etc in the US they could get the cost way down and the sales numbers way up.

Else where in the Kingdom, few big private dealers have already started to get their LC orders. Most of the time, these private dealers have more variants in specs and colors than the official Kingdom Toyota dealer. Check out the 3 trailers which came last night , full of LC200 spec G, steel rims, 6-Cyl, with rear mounted tire, rear diff . This bare bone edition is for 156000SAR !

Thanks Shoesar for the pics.

It makes me sad to think that so few of those future LC 200 drivers will not know the joy of that amazing 5.7 motor :steer::clap:

I would be curious, though, how many pump up their diesels to make more power. Maybe you could chime in, Saillaw?

There are plenty of V8- 5.7L here too, but yes biggest proportion is for V8-4.6L and V6-4.0L in gasoline. Diesel not so common, (hey gas is wayy cheap :)) but few V8 TT popping up now

Why so few 5.7s? Is the price difference between the two high, the supply low, both, something else???

The 4.6 is a fine motor, but if you could get the 5.7 AND feed it for cheap, why not?

Heck, I'd have a blower on mine by now!!!

The few diesel 200's really are more than ok in the power department. The twin turbo VDJ v8 diesel has tons of torqu and good power and gets great mileage (good to cut down on Jerry cans, more of the issue than price).

The reason the 5.7 is so rare is that you can only get it in top trim level 200s. The cheapest trim you can get with the 5.7 is about 280,000 Sr ($74,666), you can get a spec with the 4.6l v8 for about 210,00SR ($56,000), the 4.0 v6 you can get in a manual transmission for 156,000SR ($41,600).

The 5.7 is not a $19k upgrade over the 4.6 IMHO.

Of course you get lots of other options too as you move up in price. But it's not like in the US where on some cars you can "build your own".

In e Middle East there is usually only one official Toyota dealer per country. The dealer will usually pick 6 or so specs and set the price and you either buy one of those spec or you don't get one. Unless you go to one of the unauthorized dealers and buy one. They are like buying from a used car dealer in the US though in the sense that they don't have any warranty or maintenance support.

In some countries the Authorized dealer won't touch your car if you didn't buy it from an authorized dealer (the UAE dealer supposedly won't even change your oil if you didn't buy from him, much less do work under warranty). The Saudi Authorized dealer though is at least a little better in that he will do factory warranty work for you provided you have done all the recommended service through him.

Since I am rambling I will throw in another interesting bit of info. On my 76 I took a road trip to Dubai last week. I filled the tank with 110L (29us gallons) in Saudi before I left at a cost of 27SR ($7.20) so $0.248/gallon. Before I drove back, in Dubai, I put 115L (30.38 us gallons) in the tank at a cost of 445 dirhams ($121.25) so $3.99/gallon. I'll be much more strategic about where I fill up on my next trip!

If you think 7$ per fill is crazy:

In Venezuela I fill both my 90 series' 90 liter tank and the old man's 80 series' 90 liter tank BOTH for about 0.75usd. 48 gallons for less than a dollar, fun right? Its the main reason why the government's oil extraction and refinement company is flat broke. But oh well, gotta enjoy it while it lasts.

Curiously enough, i didnt give much attention to the 200 as a worthy Land Cruiser (too much luxury and electronics for me to consider it a worthy off road vehicle) until I saw the bare bones version. I would LOVE to have one of those.

And here is how the white one looks ! Nice Huhn,..
