hello , so i own a 2012 landcruiser with 1GRFE engine ( the updated version dual vvti) it might sound odd to some but they do come with these engines in middle east , a mechanic told me the top of the engine sounds abit off and he can hear a knocking or tapping soundhe took the cover out and said everything was good it could be from the cylender itself or th3 top cover is bent somehow and not enough oil reaching top of the engine , he suggested repair but said nothing dangerous its only the noise , i refused to touch the engine yet i wanted to post a video so you guys can check out the idle sound of the engine while hot since the mechanic told me that i kinda freaked out

Sounds like every 1GR-FE I've ever heard, including the one in my 07 Tacoma that I still have. It's not a quiet or polished motor, but it'll go forever.

so i recorded a new video on cold start , the car was sat overnight please check it out and let me know what you think , thank you.

so ive changed my oil from 5w40 to 5w30 and also changed spark plugs and the noise seems abit quieter, check it out and let me know what you think

sounds good to me

so i replaced spark plugs and oil viscosity from 5w40 to 5w30 and the engine is alot quieter however the engine tapping or rattling or knocking sound at around 1000rpm to 1500 rpm on idle is my concern atm

I think that's normal valvetrain noise, not concerning at all to me.

Engine previously opened by prior owner. Due to ticking/rattle at 1–1.5k rpm, coolant over-pressurization, and general wear, engine was fully torn down.

Findings: worn cylinders, bad piston rings, rod bearing wear, weak head gasket, worn lifters and VVT-i gears. Also small chipped areas on the outer top of one cylinder sleeve (coolant side) and a small damaged spot on one cylinder head deck.

Rebuild includes: new pistons/rings, new rod bearings, all 24 lifters, all 4 VVT-i gears, timing chain tensioner/guides, full gasket set, block and head resurfacing. The chipped sleeve area and head deck damage were TIG welded and then machined (non-combustion areas).

Keeping original block and heads. Car is daily driven only (no towing/off-road).

Looking for long-term feedback from anyone with experience on TIG-repaired aluminum blocks/heads or rebuilt 1GR-FE engines.

hello again , so after the rebuilt everything went smooth and i started breaking in the engine after 1500km of breaking in the engine sounds abit like piston slap only when fully warmed up and drove around , cold stat is fine , the weather is around 5-10 degrees and the oil is 5w30 please watch and tell me if it sounds abnormal
