2011 radio issues

Looking for your help and guidance helping resolve my cousin's issue on a new to him 2011.

I know there are threads on here about radio issues and tried reading thru them to see if I could find the resolution. I've seen posts related to issues when Bluetooth connected with iPhone, yet I can't find those and the solution for some reason. Here is what he had happen yesterday.

So the radio worked fine, i connected my bluetooth and 20 mins later the head unit started beeping periodically (every 1-2 minutes) as if i was pressing buttons. It was series of beeps. After 15 mins none of the hard buttons nor the touch screen would work.
No issues today. I didnt play from my Phone, just played the radio.

what have you iPhone users done to resolve this or get thru this? Just don't use Bluetooth or does it have to do with a certain update?

Never experienced that on my 2011. Has he tried to pull the battery to reset?

Not yet I don't believe. Completely overlooked trying that when he first told me about it. You when it's your own you think the worst of what's wrong not simple things to try first

More info to add to hopefully get to the root cause or potential cause. He had the same issues again going home from work. All the hard buttons around the headunit don't work including the climate buttons. The hard buttons for emergency lights and below do work. Assuming all the buttons on the same panel as the nav screen are off 1 fuse or relay? Changing stations, mode, volume do work from the steering controls.

From talking to him we are assuming it is only the buttons on the same panel as the NAV screen that are the issue. I tried getting him to go into the secret menu with holding the DISP button, but he couldn't get it to work. Also here is the video of his issue.

Edit: also the intermittent wiper setting does not work. Medium and high work but not intermittent in case that could relate.
