No cel service Josh... the 45 Run is in a hole at the top of some mountains. I'm not sure how far you'd have to go to get some either...

Brian, you're gettin skunked by the weddings man! Bummer! :D And I suppose that you can't come up for the second mining claim run and go to the 45 Run, you'll have to pick one, and I'm sure you'll go 45.... plus we have a plan! See you on HWY 4! Hehe

Yeah Josh, it was at the PMC swap meet in 08. Def. no cell service in Deer Valley. Hope you can make it though!

Jerod, we'll see about the Mining Claim Run in Sept. Back to back weekends may be a possibility. Should be able to take the Friday off for the MC run. Thanks for the reminder on the Hwy 4 plan. Should be a good ride in.

Is this run open to non-members?
I'd like to do the actual event but I'm not sure it will work with our schedule.

What time are 'ya'll' heading out from O'brien? Anyone staying Sat. night at Sourdough?

Most likely as early as possible. I'm hoping we can meet up in GP around 9, O'Brien no later than 10. Considering it's a good 5-6 hours on the trail even without stopping to clean it up, we need to get started pretty dang early to make sure we have enough time.

I know that's early for you folks that need to travel a bit further. If you want to come up the night before, I have a good sized yard you can sleep in. :hillbilly:

(Alternatively I could clean up the guest room. :hhmm: )

I actually have both Friday and Sunday off, so I'm planning on camping Sat night. I was considering bombing into Sourdough on Friday, and camping that night as well. Not sure yet....

Thining about volunteering. Just might have a truck full of kids to help(16-19yrs olds). Kind of a dry run for July.
Would like to come up Fri and stay at Sourdough. Might have a better chance to bring the kids if they don't have to get up at the as* crack of dawn to drive.
Question: how long from the saddle to O'brien on that crappy 4402 forest service road? Do you all regard it as a 'crappy' road? Seems like most of it from the Patricks Creek Rd intersection is not too good.
And how is the road from that interseciton to O'brien?
Thanks,

IIRC just over 2hrs or so. :meh: sure others can say better. Just dont ask Knolly or Garret, only takes them 45mins or so :flipoff2:

If we can make it we would be up there the day before and need a place to camp. I camped in that area with my family when I was a kid, how far is Panther Flat camp ground from the trail head?

Which way are you planning on coming in on? and how close to do you want to meet up?

Depending on what's going on in my personal life I'm in for Friday as well. I think everything that is going on should be settled down by then, I hope.

So are you planning on making the Pre-run....or the run itself....or both? :hhmm:

Thanks

We would be coming from Reno. Close would be good.

There is plenty of cool places along the way, guess it just depends on how close you would like to be.

Your more than welcome to crash at our place (no spare bedroom, but plenty of room inside or just camp in the backyard.) Warm shower and head out with us in the a.m. We are in Central Point. 'bought hour and half + to O'brien.

My summer calendar is already jammed up & I didn't think I could join the pre-run once again. Especially in that I'll just be getting back from 'Rubithon' a few days before. Due to this years Rubicon Trail conditions, I'm trailering my 40 and might be bringing it back broke and not ready for the pre-run. But, I just got talked into running the trail with my quad buddies on the same days as the pre-run, so it looks like we'll likely run into eachother again, just like last year. I'll be enlisting them into some trail work as well.

Hope to see you guys then :D

I was wondering about that. :hhmm:

camping

Thanks

The panther flat campground is to the west of Obrien where the trailhead is near. If you came from Reno you would have to go past O'brien to get there. There are a couple other campgrounds Cave Junction, an RV park on the road that leads to the trailhead. There is also a nice Josephine county (?) campground off of Caves Highway if you want more than just a place to sleep, Valley of the Rogue is right off the I-5 near Rogue River. Free and sort of on the way is my place, front lawn, upstairs on the carpet- whatever. I may make it to the run albeit it might be on 2 wheels.
I hope the rain stops by then!

There's also Lake Selmac right up the road, which has several rather nice campgrounds and is a quite nice lake. Great bank fishing as they have lots of piers and walkways out into the lake.
