Got a chance to spend some time under the vehicle last night and sure enough, I changed the rear sensor and not the front one. It appears as if someone rounded the 10mm bolt a little possibly trying to replace it before but after an hour or so and multiple extensions, sockets, u-joints etc I cannot get a good angle on that bolt. Is there a trick to getting it out that I'm missing?

After taking a break and then examining it again, I was able to use a long ratcheting 12pt wrench along the transmission tunnel/linkage area to get the bolt out. Sensor is switched so here's to hoping that code doesn't pop up again.

I just replaced this sensor, the front input shaft speed sensor, on my 2013 LX570. It's definitely harder to do than the rear sensor, but I was able to get to the bolt with a 10mm socket on a universal joint and a long extension. I have large hands and found it helpful to disconnect the 12mm bolt that holds the shift linkage on the passenger side of the transmission for better access. A magnetic light stuck in the wheel well was also key to be able to see at least part of what I was doing. I was then able to reach around both sides of the exhaust and catalytic convertor (you'll want your rig to be COLD for this) and slowly work the old sensor out using a pick, screwdriver, or wrench for some leverage once the bolt was out. The new sensor slid in easily and after a little finessing of the bolt everything went back together smoothly. I had no codes upon restarting the LX and it's driving super smooth again. Took me about an hour but I could probably do it in 10 minutes now that I've fought with it once, though hopefully I won't have to!

Hey guys, I'm getting this code on my 2011. One is turbine speed, the other is output speed so how do you know which sensors to order and replace?
Input is the harder to get to sensor on top of the transmission towards the front, that I describe replacing in post #23 above. The output is the lower, easier to get to sensor more towards the back of the transmission on the passenger side. I believe the input code is input / turbine and I'm not sure exactly what the output code is, it may be output / turbine; are you getting two different codes? Both sensors are the same and I've been having great luck with the one from Amazon linked above.
If you had both sensors start throwing a code at the same time you may want to check your wiring as it's possible a harness got damaged and not the sensors.
Wow, thanks for the super fast reply! I just have the one code (P0717) and it's intermittent. There is no noticeable difference in ride quality when the lights are on, but I don't believe the vehicle stability control is working, so maybe I baby it a little. Wrecking wouldn't be fun... I'll go ahead and order two of the sensors linked above and appreciate the help!
If it's just the one code it's likely that you only have one sensor to replace, though it sounds like you have the more difficult ones like I did. It's not a terrible job if you have a long extension and a swivel / universal joint for your ratchet as described above. Good luck!
Alright, here's an update and not a particularly good one... The lower rear sensor was pretty easy, one I figured out what I was doing. The upper front sensor was very difficult for me to reach so I decided to remove the 12mm nut on the transmission linkage to free up a little room for my hands, and I sheard the F'ing nut off. Considering that I was under the truck, on a hill, I didn't dare move the linkage for fear of somehow slipping it and killing myself. So I didn't replace the front sensor, and now I'm trying to figure out next steps. *&#@!
Hopefully your parking brake works. How did the nut shear off? Do you have a picture?
Yes, fortunately the parking brake works. The nut was seized and I over did it. Here a pic, three is a nut missing from the lever in centered in the frame.
I’ve had a hard time identifying what that part actually does, and more importantly, what happens if the lever falls off while I’m driving to my mechanic in the morning?
